It's well into the year already but I thought it'd be nice to have a thread to announce VGM and other soundtrack-related (anime, film) concerts in Japan, similar to the one from last year.  I'll kick off with the annual Press Start and the two that prompted me to start this thread:

Aug 7: Dragon Quest IX orchestral concert (Tokyo)
Aug 21: Dragon Quest VI orchestral concert (Kyoto)
Sep 11: Press Start - Symphony of Games (Tokyo) / forum thread

The DQIX orchestral concert is the same day as the huge Summer Sonic music festival that I just bought tickets for.  Gutted.  I so would have loved to hear DQIX music live.  In compensation I'm considering making a weekend trip to Kyoto specifically to see the DQVI show.

Dragon Quest concerts seem to happen a lot in Japan and DQIX has been performed at least three times in concert already to my knowledge. So if you can't make that performance, pretty sure something else will come along towards the end of the year.

(Although personally I'd much rather see the DQVI SS live than DQIX SS live any day. Sugiyama's best vs worst in my opinion!)

They're doing another DQIX concert so soon already!?

Might have to check out the DQVI concert though.
Gotta support every concert that makes it to the Kansai area!

You know, it's funny...
I could always reserve a PS ticket and always get it.
But strangely enough, I could never obtain a DQ orch ticket.
I even lined up the door for one once, but got turned away and I dread the thought of bidding 3x the worth on YJA or whereever.

I suspect that all the Osaka fans will go to the earlier PS show, because they'd probably all take the bullet train home the same day.

I consider DQVI to be Sugiyama's classical opus, and for those that most appreciate the classical aspect of his scores I can see how it would rank highly (it probably ranks as my second-favorite, personally).

DQIX falls closer towards traditional VGM and is a bit more predictable than Sugiyama's best efforts, but regardless has some very memorable and enjoyable themes to its credit.  (I certainly wouldn't consider it his worst DQ score.  DQVII is so immensely dull I prefer to just disregard it altogether; DQVIII a bit less so but worsened by that awful initial Tokyo Metropolitan recording.)

Anyway, as a concert experience I'd expect DQVI's to be akin to a proper classical symphony, whereas DQIX's more along the lines of an "orchestral game music concert".  Would love to attend both!
