Inspired by today's Kotaku "How Many of You Have A Nintendo On You At All Times" post (and in the spirit of human nature's affinity for nosiness and being a snoop - heck, I've looked at more of those Jason Travis photos than I care to admit), I'm curious to hear (or better yet, see) what STC generally has in their backpacks, handbags, suitcases, carryalls, satchels, etc.

Excluding my work-related portfolio, here's a snapshot of the contents from my main handbag for the daily commute.  The second shot is a breakdown of what they all are.

Nothing too startling.  Yes, the deodorant and tampons are about the extent of what could be considered potentially embarrassing.  But, you know..... at least I don't carry around a hacksaw.  Or a severed head.  In this bag.

I always wonder just how angry a thief would be if they stole my bag... it's essentially a large briefcase designed to fit a laptop that is instead usually stuffed with graded and ungraded papers, a fabulous rainbow of pens for the aforementioned grading of papers, and various odds and ends.  Every once in a while it also has my cell phone in it.  When traveling overseas it becomes more interesting because then it DOES have a laptop in it, along with passport and tickets!

Here's the stuff that makes it into my weekday work bag and my weekend satchel:

-iPod Touch & canal headphones
-Japanese reading material (currently vol. 1 of Naoki Urasawa's "Monster")
-A5 spiral notebook (best size for jotting down notes and ideas)
-sunglasses during summer

The bare essentials. smile  Whichever tech company makes the right tablet PC will find that added to the list.

I am too manly for bags.

I'm fortunate enough that my daily commute is a short 10-12 min drive to/from work/home, so I don't bother with a bag of sorts, however if you consider my person, whenever I leave the house for a basic trip out I have my wallet, keys and spare set and my iPhone.

If I know I'm going to be on a long haul, then I bring along my iRiver, DS/PSP, etc. depending on the situation.

The only video game related items in my bookbag are two issues of Nintendo Power.  I'm constantly about 6-8 months behind on reading these, so I read an average of one article a day while eating lunch for old time's sake (I eat fast).  What's kind of interesting about reading them so late is that even though all the news is out of date, the features are often talking about games that have just come out or are just about to come out.

My 'bag', if you want to call it that, is a tied-off grocery shopping bag that a bring to work containing lunch, deodorant, sunscreen, Pep-O-Mint Life Savers, two mp3 players (one's battery-operated, for emergencies), and random pens and folded papers. I make lists while I'm at work to keep my mind busy, see.
I have a case for my DS gear which I'm proud of as well, though I don't bring it to work. It can hold my Lite, my Wi-Fi connector, a Rumble Pak, a charge cord that works with sockets and USB ports, and a little over 100 games. Not something I'd want to risk leaving in the break room, you know?

I was born with a bag - it's right between my legs. As for the contents, they let me know when they want to come out.

Usually, I've got my iPod Touch and headphones, a notebook, sketchbook, pencil, old bus tickets, some worn business cards, fluff, PSP/DS (depending on what I'm playing), squished-up raincoat (depending on time of year), old letters I don't ever want to open (usually bills) and that's about it.

Wow, people carry around WAY TOO MUCH damn stuff.
Seriously.

I carry a Wallet and Keys. 2 items, thank you. http://twitpic.com/1to0t0
Even my mobile phone is OPTIONAL and stays at home 70% of the time.

The last time I was carrying a travel bag, was taking the train into Chicago for an evening with a lady friend, so it contained some toiletries and a change of clothes for the next day.

It'd be nice if my job were important enough to require a briefcase, although since I'm not in favor of taking Work to Home (or taking Home to Work), the result would be that I wouldn't carry much in the briefcase anyways.

Aside from wallet and keys,

I carry a mini notebook,
hand sanitizer, or handwipes, makeup bag,
USB flash drive,
occasionally DS/PSP, and a receipt pouch,

Currently looking into buying a sturdy but slim camera b/c I dislike camera phones.

I don't even carry a wallet. Or a cell phone. If for some extremely bizarre reason I suspect I might need some identification, then I'm willing to actually carry my driver's license. I really only need my ID when a cop pulls me over, which happens about 3 times per decade. I can tell store employees I'm not getting my ID and they'll accept my credit card (if not, they won't make a sale). I don't go to bars or rowdy places, so I've never needed it for that purpose.

My backpack is my man-purse.  90% of the time I leave the house, I've got it with me.  Inside, there's:

- Sunglasses
- Regular glasses
- Wallet
- Transit card
- Flash drive
- Receipts
- Pens
- Change
- Cell phone
- Earphones
- PSP
- HiFiMan
- Books
- Notes
- Calculator
- OTC medicines (depending on how I'm feeling that day)
