Anybody else have an F.Y.E. near them?

I'd swear these guys are going out of business; I've seen a number of their stores, and in different states, and between their selections of movies, music, and video-games, I definitely notice them downsizing their inventory.

Another pattern I notice about their stores is their personnel: They're usually lacking in personnel, and the people that they do have there, are rude and unaccommodating, as if they think (know?) they're about to lose their jobs, so there's no sense in working hard.

Me: "Hi, there's this game I'm looking for, perhaps you could look it up on your computer for me...?"

Salesperson: "What we have on the shelves is everything we got; if it's not there, we don't have it."

(I go over and get Super Mario Galaxy 2...the display copy, anyway...)

Me: "Okay, I'll take this..."

Salesperson: (Looks at me blankly)

Me: "Uhh, don't you have to get a brand new copy out from behind the counter? This's only the display copy, right?"

Salesperson: (Takes the display copy from me, and only then proceeds to get the game for me)

...

Trying to get their personnel to do ANYTHING, not least of which, check out with a purchase, has been like pulling teeth the last 3-4 times I've been to ANY of their stores... (-_-);

Yeah, I've been getting this feeling from the one in my town too - although to be perfectly honest when you're charging $20 for nearly every CD it's not going to break my heart if you go out of business. Some of their prices have come down which makes me raise an eyebrow out of curiosity. Still, why should I buy Def Leppard's 1983 Pyromania for $20 when I can go elsewhere and get it for $10. It's the same damn product.

They've been having these store storewide sales recently where things are up to 50% which is the only way their merchandise comes close price wise to other places This is the only time I buy stuff.

I've read the company that owns f.y.e hasn't been doing to well during the recession - again, no shock given their prices - but I'm just glad I didn't bother renewing my rewards card. Then again, this year has been more about (non-current gen) video games to me more than anything else, so everything else has taken a backseat to that.

Also, wasn’t fye the topic of another one of your threads? Don’t get me wrong, I love to sling mud at this company as much as the next guy (gamestop being top dog) but why didn’t you resurrect that thread?

Edit: Every time I go in there and see Sonata Arctica's The Last Amazing Grays there for $12 I curse the fact I have no one else to buy it for/introduce it to. It's is easily worth that and more.

Why are you still going back to them after 3-4 bad experiences? Stop going there already...

We all do silly things. Hell, I still go to the one Gamestop in my area despite the fact I want to disembowel the slack-jawed losers that work there with a wooden cooking spoon. The last overheard conversation that I loved when I went there:

Customer: Are you guys getting the Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker PSP bundle.
Employee: Yes, we'll be getting one, but I'm buying it. They may send us more if they see the first one sold.

I don't know how I stood there and didn't say anything... that so rude it's right of the scale. I'm in customer service and I wouldn't fathom ever saying anything like that.

Edit: I really don't have any problems at my local fye, but I haven't asked them to order me anything.

YES, exactly! I say the same thing about how Borders and Barnes & Noble charge up the ass for music, as well!

In an age where one can download an album legally for $7, $20 is damn well asinine; heck, it's been asinine since the CD format was standardized...

lso, wasn’t fye the topic of another one of your threads? Don’t get me wrong, I love to sling mud at this company as much as the next guy (gamestop being top dog) but why didn’t you resurrect that thread?

I don't remember; there're so many stores I'm displeased with, I'm sure my complaints all sound the same, after awhile; it was someplace whose return policies were just ABUSIVE.

I'd agree, but FYE is the only store in my area that accepts trade-ins for all of games, movies, and music; the last 3-4 $50 games I've gotten, I purchased using trade-ins alone (if you're curious, they were Super Paper Mario, Punch Out!!, and Super Mario Galaxy 2; Klonoa was the first, though, it wasn't quite $50...)

...

If FYE goes down, I'll be a little miffed, if only because I won't be able to cash things in as easily; of course, their inventory's lacking, so I guess if they can't even bother to carry inventory anymore, the fact that they accept trade-ins becomes moot.

Best Buy should think of accepting trade-ins (on music, movies and games, in exchange for music, movies, or games; kinda silly to pay for a new washer or dryer with the trade-in of other goods though, don't you think?), if you ask me...plenty of people looking to buy discounted items these days...

The one in my area use to deal with games but they quit doing it for some reason. I think the problem was they were offering more for trade-ins (so people traded them in there more often) but since they charged more than the Gamestop a few feet away when selling the games and they were losing out. Kinda funny.

Ashley Winchester Jul 21, 2010

Thought I'd update this since I've been to both store since my last post.

I traded in a few CDs at f.y.e for another one and had no problem.

Once again, the gamestop in the same mall is another story. Go in to buy a game and was told their computers where disconnected from their network. So I blow an hour in the mall and comeback. Computers are still down but then they ask me if I was going to pay in cash. Yes, I was. Then they were like "oh, we could have checked you out earlier then." Nice, real nice.

Also, again with the swearing... I work in retail and I refrain from it when I'm on the clock. I do enough of it when I'm not at work and there are just too many ways that kind of behavior can get back to my superiors.

If that is the case, why did you even bother reading this thread when you knew that nothing other than bitching was awaiting inside? Telling people not to do things because they don't make sense and turning around and doing the same? Hmmm.... you're real ahead of the curve on this one!

Don't take away my ability to have tantrums! That makes me angry... you wouldn't like me when I'm angry. Haha....

Carl Jul 21, 2010 (edited Jul 21, 2010)

Take away your tantrums?
I'm telling you to gain some self control over your situation, because that'll help you way more than bitching does.

You must be ADDICTED to games/gameshops, as you continue to NEED whatever crack they're selling, even though they treat you badly there.

Completely wrong. I just don't like buying GBA games on the internet for certain reasons.

Edit: that last part about tantrums was a joke; and I thought I was uptight.

So you're a parrot now? I don't listen to parrots. Parrots piss me off.

Good advice apparently pisses you off too.

I wouldn't take it personally, Carl.  Pretty much everything pisses him off and he has those e-tantrums on a regular basis.

har har har; now here is a shocker

Edit: oh, by the way, I hold the trademark on the term "e-tantrum" so pay up
