So due to unforseen circumstances I'll be purchasing a new car, probably this weekend and as such, I think this warrants a pretty good topic for the Open Topic forum!

I'm looking at sporty style coupes but my biggest concerns are my height (6'5") and fitting comfortably in them (steering column, leg / head room, getting in / our).  I've been looking at the Hyundai Genesis, Audi TT, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Nissan 350/370Z and all are really nice looking cars.

Anyone have any recommendations?  Anything to avoid?  Lessons learned, etc?  I told myself I wouldn't go back to American cars after my Chrysler Concorde and then Dodge Stratus, although I have to admit my Stratus has been really good to me for the 5 years I've had it.

Discuss!

I have drunk deeply of the Subaru Koolaid - love everything about the vehicles and their corporate policies in general.  Seeing as I went with the practical route (read: wagon) instead of the more fun route it seems you're aiming for (read: Impreza), I don't know how much help I can really be there, though!

Edit: I will admit that part of my love for my Subie comes from AWD, which makes midwest winters waaaaaay more tolerable!

I remember having an unforseen circumstance myself many years ago, which resulted in being forced to buy a car THAT SAME DAY, ON FOOT, while WALKING to whatever dealership happened to be along that SAME ROAD.

After a long walk my tired feet finally arrived at one, and after dousing myself at their water fountain, I used the test-drive as an opportunity to comparison shop.  Drove to some other close-by dealership which had better deals and bought something from them instead.  Needless to say, the first place was pissed when I returned, but it's not like I had any options at the time, so I left with a Sorry and a Shrug.

Thus my only advice would be: If you've got an old crappy car, don't wait TOO long before deciding to get something else, or you'll be forced to decide very very quickly one day. smile

If I was to pick a car from your list, it'd be the Genesis. Actually, it's the only car in your list I like tongue

Yeah, I am concerned about AWD too.  I live in New Jersey and I'm sure they're just as bad as mid west winters + hills.  Imprezas, totally forgot about them, thanks.  I was recommended the Suzuki Kizashi too, which doesn't look too bad.

I'm sort of in that situation, but I'm lucky enough to have money such that I can rent a car until I'm comfortable buying one.  It's been in the back of my mind for a while I just need to commit now. smile

Well, spoken as someone who just about makes 5'3", I probably wouldn't make a very good barometer.  (Ye gods, you're a giant!)  I had test driven a pal's 2009 Audi TTS Coupe a couple of times, though.  The aesthetics on the thing are dazzling from front to rear.  Steering is a little heavier than what I'm used to, and I find it doesn't take to corners nearly as responsively as my Mazda 3.

If given the option (and the cash to drop for it), I could certainly see myself with an Audi TTS.  Its premium good looks are enough for me to get past the quirks of the actual performance.
