Okay, out with it! Who's playing this?! ^_~

I managed to snag a copy and started it this morning, and I'm currently on Chapter 3. On the bad side, the gameplay is just as tedious as it was in Hotel Dusk. I foresee it getting even worse once you actually have to use the "Combine" command. Guess I have bad memories of The Adventure Company and their "And Then There Were None" game.

Kyle's also far more talkative and gets flustered an awful lot. I guess even a hard-boiled guy like him will get thrown outta whack if he loses his job and his home all in one day. He does seem to brood a lot more, at least in the early stages, but to me that doesn't seem particularly out of character.

The mysteries are popping up pretty fast. The main thing I don't like is that the flashback scenes, taken along with the story synopsis on the back of the game cover, seem to make it pretty obvious where this is headed. Then again, I could be surprised later on. I thought I knew where "Professor Layton and the Unwound Future" was headed, but I ended up being almost completely wrong there.

So! Thoughts? Impressions?

Haven't played Last Window yet. I really want to, though.

As for Professor Layton games, you're right.  The endings were just crazy(there's no way you could figure them out beforehand), every villian has a meltdown of some sort, and some building or huge tall thing gets annihilated.
It happens in the the PL movie too. ;p

Professor Layton games are not mysteries; They're just brain games with a [silly/wacky] story attached to them to keep you going on.
I was pretty surprised how Unwound Future ended; it wasn't what I was expecting either.

Is there a U.S. release planned for this at all?  I'm not sure I'm a big enough fan of Hotel Dusk to consider springing for the European import.

Nope. NoA's been pretty hostile about CING the last few years. They didn't bring the Another Code Wii game over either, and Again only came stateside thanks to Tecmo.

For my part, I'll probably import this as a Christmas gift for my sister. She was quite fond of Dusk and Trace Memory.

Huh, I must live under a rock because I had no idea Hotel Dusk got a sequel.  I got pretty far in the first game but never finished.  Maybe the sequel is just the motivation I need to finally finish it!

To be fair, that was a Tecmo project from the get-go with nothing to do with Nintendo - even in Japan.

That doesn't mean I will EVER forgive Nintendo of America for being so crappy in localization this generation for the Wii, though.  Disaster, Fatal Frame 4, and Another Code R all still tick me off.  I don't know if anyone ever looks at them or not, but I spend all of my word boxes when registering games in Club Nintendo complaining about that rather than talking about the game I registered.  tongue

Oh, and... is there any way to get a decently-priced copy of this game?  $50+ seems steep for a DS game - even imported.  :\

I'm with you on this.  I do want the game, but $40 (at current forex rates) plus international shipping is a bit much, I think.
