So I noticed something interesting about some of the games I own. I currently have two copies of Eternal Darkness for the 'cube, the Canadian printing which showcases a maple leaf on the cover and blurbs about the game in french on the back of the case, and the American printing which has neither.

Another example is the PSP port of Final Fantasy Tactics. I've owned three copies before, two of which were black label but with no artwork on the inside of the lining and Greatest Hits discs. The one I bought used recently from Gamestop has a lovely printing of the map of Ivalice on the inside of the case, making the presentation a lot better (as well as a non-GH disc). I've been wondering if it's a first print thing or what. I've also noticed an "F" next to the product codes on the other two copies, leading me to believe they were reprints or something. My games that have elaborate artwork on the inside of the case lack that (other examples being Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth and Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles).

Is there a website that might chronicle these little discrepancies anywhere? If not, can anyone shed some light on it? Google and ebay revealed absolutely nothing.

I would wager that the inserts without printing on the inside were home-printed.

I'd have to agree on that one. Hell, I've done that myself.

Still, when it comes to the topic at hand, I've noticed a few of these myself:

The black boarder Tomb Raider III does indeed come in two flavors: green is the inital press and blue is second but it's still in black boarder country. Too bad the game isn't any better. The only thing that really seperates them is some of the gameshark codes work on one but not the other.

A simular situation presides with Twisted Metal III. The black boarders can either have a blue/white disc or a gray/white disc. Ironically, like Tomb Raider III, too bad the game isn't better.

Found a copy of Crisis Core at a pawn shop the other day without french on the back of the case, the manual only in English and without the "F" at the end of the product code on the spine, and with artwork on the inside, lending further credence to my theory that these versions are American printings (as opposed to the French-heavy pressings that are far more prevalent in Canada).

I kind of want to replace my copy of 3rd Birthday. Having beautiful, full-color artwork on the inside inexplicably makes me feel better about owning PSP games.

My PSP copy of Final Fantasy Tactics, purchased at launch, also has that Ivalice map on the inside.
