Well, everyone already clued me in to software that I can use to rip DVDs to my PC, as VOB, IFO, and BUP files,

but the question is, what software can I use to burn those formats back to a DVD-R, so I can create a playable movie disc?

I'm looking for preferably free software, but if there's commercial software that you can personally vouch for, I'd like to hear about that, too!

Any help?

Thanks...I...know how to use Google.

I'm a lot skiddish about doing random searches on the internet these days, seeing as how I always have this habit of unwittingly clicking on the site that loads my compy up with adware, spyware, and the like, or is one of those sites that DOESN'T ALLOW YOU TO CLICK AWAY until you click the "OK" box that pops up, which THEN loads your compy up with all the viral crap you don't want.

That's why I ask folks like you for recommendations: It's a screening process of sorts.

No matter what I anti-virus I get, it always seems ineffectual...

Antivirus is no substitute for some basic internet "street smarts". Get yourself some sort of ad filter for your browser, and check out ImgBurn for your burning needs.

Bern, allow me to completely disregard your question and instead give you some suggestions for Web surfing prophylaxis.  You should not settle for the online experience that you describe.

(1) Use Firefox.  I do not mean to suggest that Firefox is more secure than Internet Explorer, but Firefox allows you to...

(2) Use NoScript, which prevents sites that you have not whitelisted from running JavaScript.  This alone should markedly reduce your exposure to the risks that you are experiencing.

(3) Install SiteAdvisor, which inserts site safety ratings into Google search results.  If you see a link to a site with a rating other than green or no rating at all, be wary.

(4) Install Spybot and SpywareBlaster.  There are innumerable security programs available, but these two are lightweight and prevent certain sites deemed hazardous from loading at all.

(5) It is impossible, of course, to totally immunize your computer from malware.  To limit the damage that it can do, consider using a limited account if you are using an older version of Windows.

C'mon, man, gimme a direct link to the download...now you have me scouring the web looking for this thing...

I'm downloading all this shit software, and a lot of it doesn't even work, especially not for my purposes.

I'm not even sure if I'll end up downloading the right thing.

P.S. Couldn't get InfraRecorder to work - I could get it to make a DATA disc, but NOT a VIDEO disc.

I was thinking about tossing $30-50-80 just to purchase software in store, but come to find out, a lot of that software won't cover VOB, IFO, and BUP files, anyway; I want to make an exact copy of the commercially-released DVD, complete with the menus, subtitles, and audio tracks that are part of the commercially-released DVD.

If you're going to spend money, just go ahead and get Nero. It'll do just about anything you want, and hold your hand the whole way.

Scouring the web? All you had to do was Google "ImgBurn," or even try typing "www.ImgBurn.com." It's one thing to request recommendations, but for someone to give one to you and respond with "serve it to me on a silver platter!" seems rather disingenuous.

Is this a personal recommendation, or are you just mentioning the most recognizable name in burning software?  I ask because it's a pretty tarnished name.

Yeah, I've already rolled through Roxio, Nero, and...123 DVD Copy. No dice, the lot of them.

I'm dealing with VOB, IFO, and BUP files, here, people!

...

Well, I guess I should ask, seeing as how it seems you've used it before, how DO you burn a video DVD disc using ImgBurn?

I've already wasted 3 discs just burning data discs, 2 with InfraRecorder, 1 with ImgBurn...I really can;t figure this out on my own...

Plus, the program seems to think it's helping me, with it's quirky-worded prompts, but it's not...

This is bad advice.  Assuming that the Web site of a brand or product is [name of brand or product].com could easily land you on the site of a "cybersquatter" with malicious intent.

(Sorry to keep derailing your thread, Bern.  I'll stop now.)

It's fine; you're actually providing good advice, it covers a side topic I mentioned: Internet Security.

Also still good to know, regardless.

Oh, Thank! God! I managed to figure out ImgBurn...! And it works...! (TuT)

It's rather convoluted how they make you "Build" a "Disc Image" before finally Burning it to Disc; they essentially make you do something manually, that, if you ask me, should all just be done automatically:

Select the files you need, and just click a button that says, "Burn," and let it build the disc image and THEN burn it, all in one fell swoop, as opposed to expecting you to know what to do...

Took an amount of effort to figure out, not to mention, the time it took for it to burn...yeesh...

Well, Smeg, I guess I owe you thanks for pointing me in the direction of this application! n( _ _ )n

It was a personal recommendation, but to be fair I haven't used the version discussed in your link so I can't speak to the problems people have with that.

I haven't used the other two, but Nero is capable of doing what you want. Looks like you've got it sorted out though.
