I have not been a fan of Rockstar games, but I think things may change with L.A. Noire! It looks fantastic. It appears to be along the lines of Heavy Rain, although I'm sure it's more action oriented. At any rate, this looks like it may be quite the winner, with it's Hollywood-like story and attention to detail (based upon real events and historical L.A. circa 1947)!

I'm hoping so. Sandbox games are usually filed under "Guilty Pleasure" for me, I'll admit. I did enjoy Red Dead Redemption more than a lot of recent games I've played, though, and Rockstar knows how to string together a riveting narrative.

That and the film noir detective hook has me, well, hooked.

Oh good point. I have not played Red Redemption, but that also looks very good...

I'm in this camp.

Even Red Dead Redemption, despite its high-quality writing and acting, I found to be a rather boring game to be honest, and I never bothered finishing it. I played about 10 hours, I think, but it just couldn't keep my interest. I dislike Sandbox games in general, as they prioritize quantity over quality in my eyes, and neither RDR or GTA has ever been able to entertain me even in a basic way.

That said, L.A. Noire does look very interesting. I have no idea what the actual game is going to be like, but it looks to be more linear and restrictive than most of Rockstar's games, which is a welcome thing as far as I'm concerned.

I'm loosely interested in this one.  Comparisons I've read seem to say that it's GTA meets Heavy Rain meets Ace Attorney.  One of friends plans to get it, so I'll check it out at his place.  If I like it, I'll pick it up later when it drops to $30.

I intensely dislike the idea that that makes it a good game though.

True, true... and you can argue that many games have already surpassed movies in many ways, but it was meant as a compliment. I think they were referring to the overall feel of the game as being like controlling a movie.

Gave the game a rental. It's like Hotel Dusk that actually gives rewards and consequences for obtaining answers. I like the "oh, shit now this is happening" moments. It's got driving, fighting, and shooting; none of these are done better than games specializing in each genre. Not liking all the loading though.
