I'll keep this one brief, since this is a movie best appreciated without knowing too much about it.  Despite the plot structure being unapologetically lifted wholesale from the first, The Hangover Part II makes for a great time.  The story is familiar, but not stale, affording a different setting, setups, and payoffs.  They've upped both the stakes and the vulgarity, and the "mystery" that again involves the whereabouts of a missing character remains just as pivotally engaging as ever.

I was a casual fan of the first movie, but I think I ended up enjoying this one a bit more thanks to its sense of continuity.  Part II is a confident retelling, and the entire cast is in on it, finding plenty of opportunities to wink and nudge at the audience -- almost always to hilarious effect.  After 2010's lukewarm "Due Date," it's good to see director Todd Phillips returning back to form.

I have not seen the movie (and don't plan too), but I think it's safe to warn everyone that this movie has a 35% rating at rottentomatoes.com
Its about the same rating that Pirates IV received.

So if Rotten Tomatoes' percentage ratings have anything to say about it, both Pirates IV and The Hangover Part II are about as good as Speed Racer. Sounds like I'm in for some awesome movies!

I enjoyed The Hangover quite a bit when I saw it in theaters, but upon trying to watch it a second time on TV I just could not get through it.  With all the shocks gone, the movie didn't hold much appeal anymore.  The trailers for part 2 look atrocious, and with the terrible reviews it's getting, I'm definitely VERY afraid to go see it.  I think I'll just pass on part 2 unless I am bored one day and no other movies playing appeal to me.  This seems unlikely though, as X-Men is coming next week, I want to see Tree of Life and Submarine, and then I'm pretty sure there are others I wouldn't mind seeing that are coming soon.
BUT... time to leave the house right now to go see Kung Fu Panda 2!  Excited I am!

Oh, and I found Pirates 4 very, very ho hum.  It was overlong, not all that interesting, and just one week later and I've forgotten most of it.  And STILL I found that better than Pirates 2 and 3 (just not by much).

I quite liked Hangover Part II more so than the first one.  While it did pretty much hit the same key points as the first movie things just seemed more exotic and darker with this one.

Haven't seen Pirates IV yet mainly cause i haven't seen II and III yet.

Well, Pirates 4 really did suck. wink  But yeah, only statistics-minded fools put their entire stock in a RT rating.

Natch.  The Hangover movies aren't exactly films you can watch over and over.  Once you've experienced the shocks and discovered the mystery, there's little incentive to go back.  That's why I'm surprised Part II works as well as it does; again, it's familiar, but not stale, giving us a different setting, setups, and payoffs.  Exactly what I expected in a sequel such as this.

I love statistics, so you can totally count me in as a statistics-minded fool! However, I have to admit that quantum statistical mechanics is something I struggle with. Seriously, how does one show that at temperatures far less than the Debye temperature that Cp - Cv is orders of magnitude greater than the expected T^3?
