Wooo !!!!

I've finally managed to get a female 1.5" Mexican Red Knee tarantula !

It is THE tarantula everyone has in mind. So beautiful and so easy to care for !

Mine is a confirmed female by the way ! They can live 25 - 40 years.... or more !

Score !!!

look, my new bike is made in canada

Kinda hard given I don't even own a car... but I would LOVE to visit your area ! That's definitely tarantula/scorpion country we're seeing in your vid !  What a breathtaking sight !

Just thought this picture was too adorable not to share with everyone. Here is Ginger, my recently acquired 1.5" female Mexican Red Knee  lounging at her favorite spot in the cage.

So far, she has adapted nicely, has made a small burrow under her hide but rarely goes into it. She has a very good feeding response, she's rather quick to tackle an approaching cricket, just like my 3" female Mexican Fireleg, Fluffy !

Edit: Decided to leave out the Redleg after reading many accounts on how they can be such poor eaters.

That's a pretty sweet looking spider. big_smile
My favorite is still your fire-leg though. That one was quite the eye-catcher. Are you able to handle the red knee at all? Or is it aggressive?

Obviously the Fireleg is much more colorful. I could handle the Red Knee with very little problems if I wanted to, but I hesitate. First off, they get nothing out of being handled. Second, it's just asking for accident such as a deadly drop to happen. From what I've been reading, the Redleg is the least nervous of all three and best to attempt handling. But I still don't see the point in handling them, I prefer to marvel at them from beyond their cages.

Last but not least, all 3 will kick irritating hairs if bothered too much. I've yet to be "haired" and I'd rather not test whether I'll develop an allergic reaction or not from contact with them.

Edit : On to the aggressive comment. None of them are aggressive, none will run after me for a bite. At worst, they'll kick plenty of hairs so I keep my distance. A bite from any of the three is extremely unlikely... to the point you're more likely to be bitten by a house plant than one of these tongue

That makes sense. One of my friends used to have two tarantulas (can't remember the exact species) and he handled them quite a bit. Never really made much sense to me so it's nice to hear that I'm not crazy. XD

I'd imagine aggressive spiders would be more difficult to take care of. And you've got some lovely ones anyway. :3

I’ll definitely be updating the blog with any news on the outcome.
