Rev up your lancers, ladies and gentlemen: it's Gears month at last. Gears of War 3 has been on the top of my most wanted video game list for nearly a year and a half, and all signs are pointing to an explosive SP/MP package.

I'm almost certain to pick up The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection, even if the aforementioned Gears 3 will likely keep me busy for some time.  My 3DS is starving for some new software, so we'll see how Star Fox 64 3D fares.  I was psyched when I first heard about Resident Evil 4 HD, but my excitement has waned quite a bit when I heard that Move support wouldn't be integrated into the PS3 version.  If there was one game that would've gotten me to pick up the Move, it would have been RE4.  As such, methinks I'm just gonna stick to the Wii Edition.

SQ Chips and We Are ROCK-MEN! on the soundtrack front, Hanna and Bridesmaids for home movie releases.

For games - I've been thinking about the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD remake but I'm iffy on it - I sucked royally the first time I tried SotC and never went back to it... I'm not sure I'm game to try again.  I'll be picking up the God of War Chains of Olympus/Ghost of Sparta PS3 set - even tho I bought both games for PSP I never got around to them. =p
Also want to pick up Kirby Mass Attack - it's just too adorable not to.  Child of Eden on PS3 I'm not sure about either.  Maybe I'll save that for a Christmas gift.

I'm also picking up the Playstation brand PS3 Wireless Headset so I can play late without bugging stupid neighbors and the people below me.  Nyaaa~

I had the Star Wars complete blu-ray set pre-ordered, but the "updates" Lucas is doing irked me too much and would affect my overall enjoyment I think too much.  I cancelled my pre-order.

Also picking up Fringe Season 3 on Blu-ray and the sole Doctor Who classic DVD release this time is the Jon Pertwee story "Day of the Daleks".

And in the other soundtrack thread - picking up SQ Chips and the Seiken Densetsu boxset... whew. gonna be an expensive month - good thing it's a 3 paycheck month lol.

No games, no DVDs or CDs.

But I will be buying a Kritter Keeper cage, a water dish and a hide for my upcoming Red Knee juvie smile

It's Death Month, 2011 edition.

Bit.Trip Saga
Bloodrayne: Whatever the Subtitle is (supporting WayForward)
ICO & SotC Collection
Kirby: Mass Attack
Megaman PSP Dual Pack (For $15 I'll more than happily get ANOTHER copy of Powered Up. Get it through your heads, Capcom)
Otomedius Excellent
Persona 2: Innocent Sin
Radiant Silvergun (FINALLY)
Solatoburo
Uncharted Dual Pack

Also those Ambassador gimmes and Four Swords DSi, but those are free. I think I'll skip StarFox as I didn't like SF64 the first time around. The SNES is miles better. Oh and:

Exactly this.

Soundtrack-wise, I'll grab the MM arrange album and I belatedly grabbed the Mighty Milky Way/Flip Champ OST a day or two ago.

*whew* This month is going to kill me.

I'm still going to get SF643D because I lack the discipline, but I completely agree that the SNES one is a far better game with a far better soundtrack.  I really wish they'd remake that one at 60 FPS because the SNES cart is unplayable on my HDTV due to the lag.

My purchases this month will probably go a little something like this:

Games:
-Bloodrayne Betrayal (PS3)
-Star Fox 64 3D (3DS)
-Kirby: Mass Attack (DS) [I keep wanting to call this Kirby: Mass Effect for some reason]
-Ico & Shadow Collection (PS3)

Musically, I'll pick up We Are Rockmen, SQ Chips, and Gradius Slot, but I will lust over the Seiken Densetsu and Konami Shooting boxes which I cannot afford in this Forex climate.

Aah, the start of the onslaught...
From this week until the very end of the year, there's something worth getting pretty much EVERY DAMN WEEK. I'm glad I've been saving up smile

First off, Gears of War 3 is a bloody no-brainer.
I've been purposely ignoring every single bit of information about Gears 3 ever since finishing 2 back in 2009, so I'm going into the game knowing absolutely NOTHING, except that there's a girl gear now too, apparently, and that it's gonna be AWESOME.

Still a bit on the fence about the Resident Evil HD remakes.
Apparently they're split up in the US?
I believe they're releasing both games as 1 package here in Japan this thursday, and I might pick it up.

ICO and SotC I will most assuredly be getting, and the big shiny LE at that.
I still think they're a bit overpriced here, but hey, gotta support team ICO!

There is a bevvy of HD remakes coming, and I don't know when they'll be released.
In any case, I'll probably be getting the MGS set, definitely be getting the Silent Hill set, and looking most forward to the Splinter Cell set (that's coming this month, right?), as if there aren't actually any new games coming out :S

Music-wise, only We are Rock-men interests me, but it interests me GREATLY. Insta-pickup.
Plus, I'll be going to Press Start 2011 in Nagoya on the 19th, so yeah, I'm gonna burn some money this month, baby!

Wanderer Sep 6, 2011

Nothing this month... which is great because I'm working on Xenoblade (VERY lengthy game) and I need to go through Arkham Asylum before October.

November is the scary month...

Damn, and how did I let my Polk High spirit miss the Married With Children: The Complete Series DVD Box Set?

Amazon's carrying the re-released set for just $39.99.  At eleven seasons for under $4 each, that's a crazy good bargain.

That's actually an outstanding deal - I have the first 7 seasons, and getting this set is still a deal for me (Seasons 3-5 are too good). That being said, just a small warning:

Speaking as a huge MWC fan, Season 4's DVD release may have a few episodes that's not true to the broadcast version; you'll get the syndicated version instead, which has bits and pieces edited when compared to the original Fox broadcast. It's a Bundyful Life Part 2 is actually missing almost 4 minutes of the broadcast, and this two parter is one of my favorite episodes...! I had the liberty of buying this season and finding out the hard way...as I'm credited for some of the missing elements posted here:

http://www.bundyology.com/dvd4.html

Also, you may not get the Love and Marriage intro and outro (outside of very few instances) in the episodes. It was replaced by some generic trash due to royalty reasons. You can still get this on the specific Season 1-2 American sets though, but even they may be changed in this full season set.

Edit: And happy 4000th post.

Ooooooh, that is very, VERY tempting.
Stupid region nonsense means I'll only be able to play them on my PC, though, but whatever.

Angela Sep 8, 2011

Yeah, I had bought Seasons 5 and 6 separately before, and the Sinatra theme song is very much missed.  A shame, really.

Oh wow, I really did make it to 4000, didn't I?  Does that mean I'm Top Dawg at STC? big_smile

Time to aim for OVER 9000.

Amazingu Sep 8, 2011

There's the following user comment on Amazon though:

For those wondering why this set is being re-released for $20 cheaper then the one currently available from Amazon, it's because this set is smaller and the discs are all on one giant spindle, like other complete sets like Sanford & Son. As long as that doesn't bother you, by all means save the $20 and wait for this set to be released.

That actually notably calms my enthusiasm.
A spindle!? Really!?

Angela Sep 28, 2011

My "Married With Children" set came in today.  For those wondering what the packaging looks like, here are some pics:

01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07

As you can see, the discs are actually split into two separate spindles.  The spindles themselves are made of light, hollow plastic, which do feel a bit on the cheap side.  The hard cardboard lids act like covers that keep the discs in place.  Folded up, the set fits into the included slipcase.

So yeah, it's not nearly as elaborate as other like-minded complete box sets, but it does the job.  I sort of appreciate the compact design.  More importantly, I can now take part in the Bundy marathon I've been meaning to do all my life. wink
