Have you ever had a silly little problem get in the way of playing a game?

Recently I played through Mega Man 8 on the Sega Saturn and got really use to the controls despite my fears that the layout of the controller would hinder my play. Things started out a little rough but I literally mastered everything by the last fight - I was able to take out Wily on the first shot and I don't consider the end of Mega Man 8 to be easy. Okay, it's not Mega Man 7 hard (where the last fight is insane even with four energy tanks thanks to those blasted, elemental orbs) but you get the point.

Anyway, given that I had just completed the game on the Saturn I thought it might be fun to switch consoles and do a quick play through on the PlayStation to take note of all the differences. This all seemed all well and good in theory, but damn... I had some real problems with the placement of the buttons on the PlayStation, even that extra bit of horizontal space between the buttons threw me off. I tried reassigning the buttons in a vertical alignment but ran into another problem: the rim of the analog stick got in the way. I know that seems silly (actually this whole problem is silly) but it really became an issue. I find it crazy how I may need to downgrade to the PS2 to play the game so I can use the original PS1 controller.

So, I guess what I asking is does anyone have any (completely anal) controller stories? Is there a game you have to play "a certain way" or you can't play it at all?

Ummm. I have to switch to my old gamecube controller when entering action replay codes because for some reason the action replay software is super sensitive and is reading my analog stick is pointing up.

For Super Monkey Ball, the only way to play is with a gamecube analog stick, and a new one at that.

Everyone is a stickler when it comes to N64 or Cube smash with the analog sticks.

Any racing game that uses triggers as brake and accelerator that doesnt allow you to customize the scheme. Forza and MSR, I'm looking at you. For

Well ever since the Saturn's analog pad, I find no other analog control has the resistance I want. I liked it pushing back. And it makes sense that a bigger movement should require that bit more effort. Aside from that... I'm mostly okay with control and controllers. Took a LONG time to get used to the dual sticks FPS control but that's the only time I really had to make a big adjustment to how I played games.
