"From the makers of the award-winning Heavy Rain comes a unique, psychological action thriller. Featuring a brand-new game engine, a compelling, original story, and a top-notch Hollywood cast; BEYOND: Two Souls promises to be one of the most immersive experiences on the PlayStation 3.

Live the remarkable life of Jodie Holmes, a young woman who possesses extraordinary powers through a psychic link to an invisible entity. Experience the most striking moments of Jodie's life as your actions and decisions determine her fate. As she traverses the globe, Jodie will face incredible challenges against a backdrop of emotionally-charged events never before seen in a video game."

Finally, a game that actually interests me smile
Heavy Rain was fantastic. So I have high hopes for this game. I just read this blurb on amazon, but there's not much information beyond that at this point. Apparently, the main voice actress is Ellen Page, best known for her wonderful performance as Juno.

I felt that Heavy Rain was quite flawed, but I enjoyed it anyway, so I'm very much looking forward to this one. The trailers make it appear to be more action oriented than Heavy Rain, and you only control two characters (the girl and her ghost buddy), so it'll be interesting to see how it goes.

I've played both Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain, and although I enjoyed both WHILE playing them, I actually hate them in hindsight. This is probably due to the fact that Cage just doesn't know how to finish his stories properly.

Also: nothing but QTEs.

So did you really enjoy something and then later decide you hate it despite the fact that you recall enjoying it? Or did you just not like the ending? I thought the ending to Heavy Rain was excellent! Of course, you have to keep in mind there are something like 8 different endings, which just adds to the replay value. Anyway, I know I've discussed the Heavy Rain storyline with others, including you, and I really think it's masterfully done.

Here's a link to the old thread (second page)

Still, as I said back when we discussed the game, to each their own. I have high hopes for this game, and I hope the storyline is as enthralling as Heavy Rain's smile

It's perfectly well possible to enjoy something up to the very end, and then end up hating it when the ending screws you over so much that you feel like everything that led up to it was an exercise in futility.
We have indeed already discussed this, so I won't go into it again, but I'll just restate that I thought the ending/reveal to Heavy Rain was a f*cking cheat and a slap in the face to the player.

And the less said about the way Fahrenheit was wrapped up, the better.

What I like about these games though, especially Heavy Rain, is that they're very atmospheric and moody, and there are some great scenes in there. It's just that, when viewed as a whole in retrospect, they're complete and utter balls.

So yeah, you basically hate the ending. And I still disagree with you, the ending to Heavy Rain was FANTASTIC smile
Clearly, we don't see eye to eye on that point, but that's fine. I do however completely agree with you on the atmosphere and mood. It was all top-notch in my opinion. I never played Fahrenheit, so I can't comment on it. I did however read Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, and was grieved to hear when he passed away recently... what a wonderful writer he was!

II didn't want to play Heavy Rain because I was certain we'd get more of that crazy, out-of-left-field nonsense that occurred so prominently in the final act of Farenheit.

Reading up on Beyond Two Souls right now, and I find the theme that the game will explore to be fascinating. Still hesitant, though.

Actually, I thought the whole story of Heavy Rain was clever, intricate, and fantastic. I highly recommend you play the game. It's definitely one of the better games I have played in a long time. Well, maybe that's not fair, since I really don't play games that much smile Still, I thought the story was top-notch and I was surprised by how "deep" and wonderful it was. Give it a chance, and I'd love to hear your thoughts.

To be fair, Heavy Rain does not have the utter insanity that was the plot of Fahrenheit and remains fairly realistic throughout (by video game terms at least), but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its fair share of problems.
