Disgaea D2 is a continuation of the first Disgaea, set several years after the good ending. It stars Laharl, the main character of the first game, as well as Etna and Flonne. Old characters will return and new characters will be introduced. The game will have the familiar slapstick, yet serious ambiance Disgaea titles are known to offer. A remake of the first game was considered, but the team wanted to deliver a new story.

The game system will focus on the good points from Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten. But since many fans believed Disgaea 4‘s system had too much volume, it’s being balanced to be closer to the original Disgaea. Disgaea‘s system is popular, said Kozakai, but there is an impression of weak spots in the story, which the team aims to repair. In terms of new elements, there are still various features that have yet to be revealed. It appears you might even be able to use monsters as mounts.

What is everyone's opinion(s) of Disgaea 1-3? I don't really play many strategy games, but I want to try one, probably 3.

As for this, why the D2? Never knew names were that difficult to make...

you'll probably like Disgaea, even if you dont like strategy RPGs in general.

the 1st Disgaea is the best, easily. quirky characters, setting, plot, and humor overall. a lot of the attack animations, especially for special attacks, become more and more over-the-top the more advanced they are.

the game's system requires you to grind for levels like there's no tomorrow, and you can grind your levels into the 100s, but there are tricks that help you pop a character's level by 30 levels at a time (or more), for example. the game basically kind of pokes fun at level-building like that, and kind of proves they're just numbers. you can also trick a character out w/ equipment that, for example, might make a Lv.1 character as strong (or stronger) than a Lv.30 character.

there's also the Dark Assembly (Senate?) that allows you to tinker w/ the different aspects of the game itself, like adding new character classes, modifying store prices and selections, and gaining access to secret battle fields, among other things.

Excited for this as the other 3 games are not as strong as the first in terms of story/cast/strategy. Yet another reason I have to pick up a PS3 soon
