Still, idiotic to vote EA to be the worst company in US again. Like there isn't shittier and more awful and hideous companies in there. But gamers are sometimes just mindboggingly idiotic in their ways of thinking.

This poll was not done by gamers. I don't know what their criteria for "worst company" is, but the runner-ups were Bank of America, Comcast and Ticketmaster. I don't think they were looking for environmental consequences or anything along those lines, in which case there are of course "more hideous" companies. However, the point is that EA in terms of how it treats people is crappy nonetheless, and they got what they reaped.

But gamers voted on it, that was I was going after. Especially with them not seeing BoA being really gazillion times worse, or heck even those ah-so-lovely insurance companies. But gamers just see EA as the evil of everything (and they still keep supporting it, which is fun ), when most of the stuff they do is actually harmless.

Did gamers vote on it? I thought it was a closed poll, but I don't know. By the way, I do personally think EA sucks, which is one reason I don't support any of their games that requires online activation, etc. and I do agree, there is a lot of hypocrisy around, but that's the unfortunate nature of human beings.
I can't say that I'm altogether thrilled with being called mindbogglingly idiotic, but let me wipe some of the drool off of my chin and try to explain my reasoning for voting for EA. As is evident from its name, Consumerist is a blog about the experience of being a consumer, so its Worst Companies in America tournament is about how badly companies treat its customers.
I concede that even by this criterion EA isn't objectively the worst company in America. Voting for EA is an emotional response, to be sure. I think that there's a difference between bad customer service in industries like banking and insurance where "evil" is... customary, let's say, and bad customer service in hobby industries, where it infringes on the fun of the hobby.
What this tournament really is is an opportunity to wag a finger at and give some negative publicity to a company for doing wrong by its customers, and it makes sense to choose a company that will be bothered by the bad publicity. Peter Moore's pre-emptive acceptance speech demonstrates that EA was the right choice. If Bank of America had "won," would anyone care? I doubt it. It would just have been one voice in a chorus of jeers.

It was poll for the readers of Consumerist. And for me, I only really strongly dislike EA because they don't port their NHL games to PC anymore. Which is really annoying for me. Otherwise it's just a big business company doing business they way they feel they should. Of course, voting with wallets is the only way to show companies that what they feel how they should do business is wrong.

My jab at gamers was more of a jab about how some of them are kinda sheepish in their ways, following what sites say etc. and not thinking stuff themselves much. But here's a tissue to help that drool wiping. :P

This is odd, why stand for bad service in one area of life and not stand it in another. But surely, EA probably has the worst customer service in the gaming industry, but then it's hard to know how much of it is nowadays actual bad service or the internet crying wolf.
Even still, they really did f--- up that SimCity launch, but nowadays it seems fine though other problems still exist apparently. Kinda makes me wonder how in the hell Microsoft is gonna manage the next Xbox launch if it's always online.

I don't think EA is much bothered about the publicity, it will be again forgotten by the public fast. And Moore does have point, they have made mistakes, but to be the worst, the mistakes aren't big enough. Also, if some of those things Moore said is true, then f--- gamers for voting EA. Like that NLF cover or LGBT character issues. Always online being DRM or not, it really doesn't matter much of the gaming populace when probably 95% of them do have always on internet.
And I think if Bank of America would have won, it probably would have made bigger headlines around the news. But opinions opinions, they all suck, even mine.

It really pissed me off that Moore tried to flip the script and pretend that voting was motivated by homophobia and so being voted Worst Company was a badge of honor. It's disappointing to see that his spin control is working on you.

I doubt this very, very much. Bank of America is so big and so vilified that hatred of it isn't noteworthy.
While EA is a terrible company in many ways, I agree that the damage they do is minimal compared to industries such as oil. You want to see real evil, look at Exxon Mobil
