How many have purchased an album based on hearing only one song from it? And what were your impressions afterward? Did the rest of the album impress as much? Do you go back and listen to it?

Two of mine are Espgaluda, after hearing Huge Battleship Elinies, and Zelda takt of the wind after hearing Windfall Island. My impressions afterward: for Espgaluda, I think that track is pretty much the hilight for me, there is more variety, but none of the soundtrack gives me as much excitement, the other high points are probably the arrange tracks at the end.  For takt of wind, the album is slightly giant, and as with most soundtracks a huge variety in moods, situational music etc., but I think the album is pretty great, and I especially enjoy the closing credit song.
Overall I probably revisit Zelda more than Espgaluda.

For me the final verdict is I don't regret getting these albums on somewhat of a whim, vgm CDs being so expensive, it's kind of a risk, but that's just the price of admission in general, it's not bad to take a chance sometimes because there is so much to discover.

Two for me were Final Fantasy Pray and the first Dracula Battle, both were from samples (in mp2!) here at STC. For Pray, it was the Matoya arrange that did it and Dracula Battle was (of course) Bloody Tears. More recently, the PPPPPP soundtrack comes to mind (Positive Force).

Ah the old MP2 days.  Goldfish wins the STC Award for nostalgia kick of the week. big_smile

I'm pretty sure I kept the old zip disk I stored those on, though no more zip drive. Remember when 100 megs used to be a ton of storage? lol

I wonder if newer players even support mp2.

And yeah, I was a pup in the VGM scene in mid-1998...I only had a couple albums and no job at the time which limited my purchases (and samples were hard to come by), so those were easy to remember.

'Theme of Digital Dimension' from Sonic Riders ost. Track is super futuristic. Definitely worth it for that track; the rest of the album is okay.
