You found a Hadrurus spadix ?!  Sweet !!!!!

I'd want one of those. Too bad they are so hard to come by like the US native tarantulas hmm

Edit : Oh wait... was it dead or did you kill it ?  sad  Sucks. They make neat pets.

Is 'Hadrurus spadix' the scientific name for a channel lock wrench that's longer than a scorpion?

Something about this photograph just screams "MAD SCIENTIST EXPERIMENT."

The handles on those pliers next to it look like they're made of sausage...don't tell you you're intent on snipping the tail off that thing with those...?

Or was that there just for a size comparison?

Obviously it is for the scorpion tongue

It has a close relative, Hadrurus arizonensis. Going by that latin name, it's easy to guess the species was first discovered in Arizona, USA. When ? Your guess is as good as mine. These are very special scorpions... they have a record longevity of 25+ years in captivity, similar to many USA/Mexican Female tarantulas. Most scorpions, regardless of sex, don't live longer than a decade at most. The only other exception are the South African Flat Rock scorpions (Hadogenes sp.). Most. Boring. Scorpion. Ever. My experience with a H. paucidens was short-lived. ALWAYS in hiding and hardly ever ate while I had it. It's kind of a shame, but it killed my interest in scorpions.

But Mike, don't leave us hanging here... was it dead when you found it ?

If not, would you consider placing it in a 5 Gal tank and keeping it ?

Next time, I expect you to find a tarantula tongue Hopefully NOT a mature male.

Or a vinegaroon/whip-scorpion too... These are pretty awesome looking... and non-venomous !! How about that ?

this guy was a pool dweller. he was smashed to make sure he was dead.
i've skimmed out plenty i thought we dead (nothing that big) only to have them reanimate and walk away 15 mins later.

this is Norris peeking out from the space between my property wall, and my house.

That makes me sad, Mike. Sides, Hadrurus have really weak venom, compared to Pandinus sp. (Emperor scorps). The sting would hurt like a bee sting. And still... they do you a favor by eating all the unwanted insects around.

that is why i have the house and yard sprayed for insects every 2 months.
less bugs  >> less scorpion food  >> they skip my house and move onto the next yard.

it is actually raining right now,,, for the first time in 95 days...
