Okay, I'm sorry... this topic probably isn't going to paint me in the greatest of light but I've just got to unload...

A few years ago I got a pretty nice tax turn and I bought my mother a laptop computer. Now, this might make me look like a giving person but I really had ulterior motives behind this. At the time this laptop was actually better than the desktop I was running and I more or less got her the thing to... get her the hell off my computer.

See, my mother has a habit of screwing up every computer she touches because she JUST HAS to get her *precious* internet coupons. Oh, but let's (she) blissfully ignores the fact that each one of these damn coupon sites has it's own "crapstatic" software that screws this up or doesn't work with this browser. Oh, this site doesn't work with IE10 so I have to downgrade IE to 9 which then allows all sorts of exploits to pop up through Flash and Java. Oh holy lord spam and spyware-o-rama! Doesn't realize NOTHING is free and you're blindly giving up information.

Today I was my day off and I was trying to relax and play Klonoa on the Wii only to be interrupted 30ish times when something wouldn't work. Of course it wouldn't work... because you keep putting this damn trash on the computer.

Of course the whole thing eventually implodes where I'm the bad guy and she's innocent "because she knows nothing about computers" and plays it up with her tiny "I'm innocent" voice. Man oh man I hate when she plays that card.

I'm sorry, I'll probably regret posting this but I just get so aggravated. I seriously have no problems with my computer but I seriously want to chuck her's out the window.

I've even tried to get my sister and my brother-in-law to explain this crap is why the thing never works, but we always get the same damn reply: "I need my coupons."

No, you do not *need* coupons... you need breathe in oxygen, to expel waste and take in nourishment. Coupons are not a "need..."

Again, I'm sorry... I'm just frustrated...

Sure... cause I'm 100% positive I wouldn't get one hundred million voice mails about coming over to fix it regardless.

But at least it's easier to ignore your phone! smile

i have tried for ages to get my parents off IE.  they just won't do it.  all my moms and dads bookmarks are there.  they don't all transfer to Firefox and they can't be bothered to reopen and save them all there.  they're lucky their computer has lasted as long as it has as they don't know anything about backing up files. if it ever crashed they would be livid.  trying to teach parents to use computers properly is like gouging your eyes out with an icepick.  and when you get frustrated because they don't get what you're trying to say to them you get the "why are you being so mean to me? can't you just do it?" and ugggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

My worst problem right now is my mom bought a new computer that has Windows 8 on it. So when I'm trying to do something on it, I'm cursing the entire time at it because nothing works like it should.

Oh, and it has all sorts of bugs and stuff in it. She's only had it for 9 months and it sees very light use! I'm getting all kinds of random popups on it.

I guess I'm pretty lucky that my parents have always been tech savvy. We just get the normal "router isn't working" type questions. My mom has like 4 tablets and my dad has a pretty crazy entertainment room that even I don't understand.

Were the opposite as kids, though. "Dad, how do I <insert anything about home improvement or fix-it>" although Google has replaced dads to some extent tongue. Commence eye rolling parents.

Totally agree. The reason I (she) was using IE was because most of these craptastic programs wouldn't work with Chrome last time I screwed with it.

I myself quit using IE a long time ago.
