It's too bad! I always loved our yearly gift exchange. Maybe we can do one after the holidays?

I actually thought about this at work... I was kind of curious as I didn't see any thread for it.

Anyway, I know it's not really related but I haven't been in a holiday mood the last two months... I know it seems selfish but when it comes to family I didn't/don't even want to exchange gifts anymore. There are a million reasons for this but one of the reasons (to me) is that Christmas has become too commercialized. Personally, while the store I worked at did $80,000 less than last year, which isn't good (even though we were the best in the region) I think that sales being down everywhere shows people are starting to feel the same way. That or because people still don't trust the economy.

In years past I always got such a thrill out of giving gifts... maybe it's the fact that I'm 30 and am seeing the holidays more from the perspective of a grown up maybe...?

Anyway, easily one of the most frustrating holiday seasons I've ever encountered... but then I work in retail, so...

I've always been more of a lurker on these forums, but I am curious how long back the tradition went, since I can't remember if it was happening when I first found the site.  I know it went back to at least '06, but no idea if it went back as far as '99.

I don't think it's cancelled so much as someone just didn't decide to step up and organize one?

We could just have a late one where gifts get exchanged in January? A completely sporadic Martin Luther King Day gift exchange?!

I had organized it the last couple years, and Ramza for a few years before that.  This year, I've been fairly occupied at work, and forgot to get this started.

I think we should do one this "season"/year, whatever. Let's just do one! Anyone want to organize it?

I'm in if I can request booze instead of a CD as a gift.

That's a great idea.  I'm much less picky about beer than I am music.  But equally happy to consume.

A general gift exchange while nice, may not quite be in the spirit of STC. I like the fact that we traded CDs, although to be honest sometimes games were exchanged too (hey, video games have video game music, so this is kosher)! I do think we should do something after the New Year.

I was just joking about exchanging beer (I welcome contributions though!) but my own general pickiness is the reason I never took part.  Always enjoyed watching you guys participate though.
