The best classic game music and more
I haven't actually hard the Lightning Returns OST yet, so I didn't bother to add the Plus album. Is it really worth listening? I have it sitting here on my harddrive, but from the trailers, everything in me says: "Don't do it, you end more disappointed then you can imagine now!"
I moved LiquidAcid's post to this new thread since I was planning on posting one anyway.
As someone who didn't care for FFXIII OST, completely missed FFXIII-2 OST and pretty much has no interest in FFXIII in general, I was completely surprised by the quality of this sequel soundtrack. I'm guessing when people rave about Hamauzu this is the Hamauzu they're talking about. He's got a few beautifully understated, patiently arranged pieces on here with some lovely little flourishes, accompanied by some similarly great works by Mizuta.
In my first couple listens I've found the last two discs to not capture my attention as much as the first two, and altogether there isn't the number of standout tracks I'd hope for in a four-disc OST, but it's certainly worth a listen.
Well, judging from how much our musical tastes differ, I guess I should completly avoid this then.
I found XIII fantastic, and also XIII-2, if you removed these horrible trance tracks first (and Crazy Chocobo from disc 4). In fact, I would consider disc 4 (again, remove that horrid Chocobo track!!) one of my few loop-ad-infinitum discs. It has this incredibly beautiful vocal theme song by KOKIA, where she really shines IMO (which is not always the case with her "contract" works, but I guess they left her a good amount of freedom here). And then the moment at the end of 'Eternal Paradox', where the theme's melody slowly enters... just magical. That part always gives me shivers.
And yeah, I know, neither Noel's Theme nor 'Eternal Paradox' were done by Hamauzu

Oh come on! I love Crazy Chocobo! It's so mind-numbingly stupid that it's hilarious....

Yeah I know you're not the only one here. (Wanderer is a fan I know, not sure who else.) I tried my hardest to like that OST but couldn't manage it.
The piano collections is nice though.
Nah, if I want something disturbing I most likely listen to this: XaaaCi.
