trailer

Release date: July 23 [Japan]

Interesting that Nintendo would fund a fighter for their lowest difficulty franchise. Game looks like it maintains the Smash Bros. control scheme (I saw grabbing+upthrow) with the addition on an ability to shoot down diagonally with projectile attacks. Maybe a low-entry skill game to train the youth for Smash Bros. Nintendo seems to be going the rout of action spin-offs. Kirby works better for pure violence with the characters being so unhumanlike they appear as violent-friendly punching bags. A beat-em-up that allows movement beyond the 2D-plane would actually use the 3DS key features better than what I've seen from the trailer.

edit:

Kirby Fighters Z
-No online
-Same 10 power ups
-Bell & Beetle power ups available only if you have Triple Deluxe (and have Streetpass enabled)
-Same deal for the Waddledee Train stage
-Single player mode, boss battles
-Beat the mode to unlock cooler looking hats
-Beat the mode on the hardest difficulty to unlock Shadow Kirby as playable
-Team battles. Able to share items with team members by 'kissing' them.
-5 new stages

I know this probably isn't the place to post this... but I'd kind of hate to start a separate thread for what I want to say.

In all honesty I just don't get why people like and/or care about Kirby. Out of all the Nintendo franchises (save for Pimkin, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem which I've never touched) Kirby is easily my least favorite... and I absolutely have no idea why.

I mean I love the original Kirby's Dream Land on the GB despite the fact it is way too easy and short... however I know part of that is me wearing nostalgia goggles since that was the only one I played as a child.

As an adult I played the immediate follow-ups and found them to be extremely flaccid. Not even the introduction of Kirby's copy ability interested me.

And don't get me wrong... I would absolutely LOVE to find a Kirby game that knocks my socks off and absolutely dethrones the original in my personal hierarchy... but I'm just so damn hesitant to but money down on any more of them.

Can anyone recommend a Kirby game for a person that really doesn't like Kirby?

Anyway, sry for derailing the thread so early but Kirby's enduring popularity just makes no sense to me....

I've always found Kirby games pretty boring. The whole sucking mechanic doesn't really feel all that interesting.
Did love Kirby's Pinball Land but that was pinball...

Kirby's Airride [GC] - Trial City LAN battles.

Kirby's enduring popularity just makes no sense to me....

The large distinctive visual design of his avatar & his enemies & his attacks, the accessibility due to low difficulty, and the pleasant music.

In the case of the first game being too short and easy... yes, that's a flaw but it's not enough to sink the game for me. When it comes to mentioning the difficulty I'm not really pointing out all the games even though Kirby tends to be on the easy side.

Also, some of favorite games are very lax in the difficulty department. Love Mega Man Legends even though it's a cake walk and these days I generally tend to prefer shorter games. It's very hard for me to get 30-60 hour RPGs in my consoles anymore, even if I previously enjoyed them.

Edit:

Asking about the series enduring popularity was kind of a rhetorical question. I know WHY the series is popular but I just seem to be immune to it.

Additionally, I feel the Kirby music is somewhat overrated... but then I'm sure some feel Mega Man music is so all is fair.

Don't know if you're aware of this, but this is actually a mini-game from Kirby Triple Deluxe that Nintendo has decided to make its own downloadable eShop game (presumably a bit more fleshed out), so it wasn't a terribly big risk to take.
