Yes, both the original and revised reply are models of maturity and intelligence. Way to go, there! I'm certainly all for the try-before-you-buy model, but the first post in this thread doesn't exactly indicate that as the reasoning, now does it...
In any case! I thought knowing Deep Labyrinth and Cooking Mama coming to the states would actually be useful in this case. I can't really say much about a lot of Japan-exclusive games, other than Jump Superstars (most of the JP releases I've bought here have eventually come out in English). JS is decent, but a lot more fun if you can do it multiplayer - and you'd better have some Japanese knowledge if you want to have any hope of unlocking things.
I would also tentatively endorse Dais' recommendations of Goemon and Bleach, as I've heard nothing but good things about both of them. I can't understand why Goemon hasn't gotten localized, and Bleach might show up in English eventually if that anime hits it big in the states (kind of like how the GC Naruto games waited a long time before crossing the pond). Don't forget Band Bros., which all my friends adore but my brain simply can't handle. Good multiplayer experience if you can do it!
