It's ridiculous how the police here in the US have become their own judge, jury, and executioners. Now add: thieves.

By the way, I'm not saying most cops are like this, but that doesn't change the fact that this stealing has become rampant.

I didn't click on the link, but, yeah, civil forfeiture laws are ridiculous. Essentially, if someone has a large amount of cash, that in itself is generally regarded as evidence that it was obtained illegally. The seized money the becomes the defendant in the trial.

I used to read a lot about these things on a couple sites I used to visit a lot (theagitator.com, overlawyered.com), but I stopped going there after a while because it was too depressing.

Here is an article that Radley Balko (of The Agitator) put together back in 2010:

"Ridiculous" is one word. I would also consider "unconstitutional". Basically, if you go to the bank, withdraw $1000 (for whatever reasons), and are pulled over, the police can just take your money. No questions asked. The sad thing is this happens a lot more often than people think. They can also take your computer, your phone, your watch, your car, pretty much anything they want. This has become an industry, and it's important that people wake-up and realize what is happening. I already emailed my congressman about this. You might argue this will get me nowhere, but if people push on this the laws can get changed.
