Yeah, but is this really necessary?  or pehaps some people figured they could probably make some easy money off these things!  Can they prove that it really prolongs the life of the 360?  I'd like to know how they test and prove these results (yup, I'm a scientist, I want proof smile

It is a proven fact that computer components operate better and longer under cool temperature conditions.  Here's a nice long wiki article about heat and computers:

Yes, I'm certainly not denying that cool computers operate better.  However, that does not mean that an external fan nor heat sink really does anything!  How much extra heat is removed? and if they claim it really does extend the life of the 360 I want to know by how much and how they got these results!  I don't want spoon-fed lines here, I want to know the methodology, otherwise you're just taking their word for it (and how much is that worth?)
