Now that the year is over, what were your favorite video game releases from 2014? If possible, let's keep this thread only to games that were actually released in 2014. I'll post my list a bit later, but I wanted to kick this off.

Ok, here's my Top Five Favorite Games of 2014. The trailers I've included don't really do any of them justice, but that's the best I could come up with on short notice. You'll just have to trust me that they're all a lot more fun than these trailers make them appear:

05. Nidhogg (PS4) for incredibly intense one on one combat.

04. Shovel Knight (Wii U) for brilliant pogo platforming.

03. Towerfall Ascension (PS4) for the best couch multi since the N64.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG_vhHWwFSk

02. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS4) for tight, flexible stealth gameplay.

01. Kero Blaster (PC) for the perfect marriage of fun and charm.

Some other 2014 games that were especially memorable include Burial at Sea Episode 2 (PS3), Bravely Default (3DS), Shantae and the Pirate's Curse (3DS), Mario Kart 8 (Wii U), Hyrule Warriors (Wii U), and Escape Goat 2 (PS4).

It was a pretty great year for games!

Top 5 time? Top 5 time!

To be honest, I was going to include Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag on this list, since I played the JP PS4 version which IS a 2014 title, but since it was released everywhere else in the world in 2013, I'll let it slide for now, just so I can include:

05. The Evil Within
Hugely underrated and misunderstood, mostly because it requires you to use your frecking head instead of your trigger finger. It's not RE4, no, but it's a damn great game that only Mikami could have come up with.

04. P.T.
Holy shit this is the scariest thing I've ever played in my entire life. I literally, LITERALLY had to put down the controller to calm down at some point. Love it.
I'm sure the final "Silent Hills" game will be nothing like this, which is why I think this "playable teaser" deserves a spot on the GOTY list: it made people talk (and scream) and it made a dying franchise relevant and exciting again.

03. Kingdom Hearts II.5 HD Remix
Because it is a collection of the two best KH games, and they look gorgeous and still hold up fantastically well.

02. Bayonetta 2
Because it is the pinnacle of the action game genre AND it comes with a port of the original FOR FREE.

01. Theatrhythm Curtain Call
With ALL of the songs of the original game (including the DLC ones!), plus a metric shitton of new ones, and FINALLY some non-FF music available for DLC as well, oh AND a hugely improved Quest Mode (because let's face it, the Dark Notes thing in the original was kind of disappointing), this game has toooooons of content to keep you busy for at least 100 hours.
There's nothing I spent more time with this year than this game, and that's because it's absolutely unparalleled and perfect at what it does.

I think I have only two games that stand out this year - not a comment on games, more just about my own gaming habits.

Theatrhythm Curtain Call - I have played a ridiculous amount of this.
80 Days - A wonderful text-based game with tons of routes and stories.

I think I played 2 games that came out in 2014.

Dark Souls II = disappointing
Divinity Original Sin = awesome

otherwise, my gaming was on older games which can be purchased for excellent prices. That said, I am looking forward to playing Dragon Age Inquisition, but I'll wait until the game of the year comes out.
