Game Symphony Japan had the fantastic FF7 concert last summer (STC topic link).

Their 8th and 9th concerts on May 1-2 in Tokyo have the theme "Games released in 1994". They will feature a 2-part symphonic suite of FF6, but also Live-A-Live and other unannounced titles. On top of a "large-scale orchestra" they will also have a "large-scale mixed choir". (Link to official page)

(BTW, just after this on May 3-5, there is the 4 Star Orchestra game music festival. Five days straight of orchestral game music concerts, can't believe the timing!)

Here is the FF6 tracklist:

Not that I had any reservations about returning to Japan, but if I did then this would have taken care of them. Super excited.

If I had to choose one program over the other I'd say "Kids Run Through the City Corner" and "Devil's Lab" just barely win out over "The Mystic Forest" and "Mystery Train".

Is anybody going to be in Tokyo for this? General admission tickets just went on sale and there appear to be plenty left so far. Despite a slight preference for the Friday night program I'll be going to the Saturday show for convenience's sake.

If it were a month later... sad

Sounds awesome, but I'm not going to go all the way to Tokyo for a concert.
Besides, I already went to that amateur concert where they did the entire soundtrack, so I'm good wink

I'm a little surprised that two weeks after the on-sale date neither concert appears close to selling out yet. Not sure if it's because it coincides with the Golden Week holiday or if they're just not marketing it well enough. Or could it really be true what I read on some random site that FFVI isn't as high on Japan's FF love list as the likes of FFVII and FFX.

I wonder if they'll be borrowing any of those previous arrangements from either the Lapis Dream Orchestra concert or the Little Jack Orchestra one, or arranging everything from scratch.

And it's not like there aren't other things to do in Tokyo. Maybe you're Osakan enough by now to not be interested in that though. smile

I do think Golden Week has something to do with it. Don't many people travel or return to their hometowns? Plus the tickets are quite expensive and there's the once-every-four-years VGM festival right after. I also think the number of concerts has exploded in Japan, so concerts are less special. (Ever since game music concerts game to Finland, I can't get my friends to travel anywhere abroad for concerts anymore.)

Some people I know are satisfied with experiencing a concert once, which is I think is a weird phenomenon, since people go to see the same beloved pop/rock bands whenever possible. If those people exist in Japan, they've had plenty of opportunities already to hear FF VI music. But of course I hope they will go to the concert and it will sell out smile

I hope you'll be writing a review of the concert, would love to read it.
