I've been training in martial arts for years. The way I was taught was traditional Korean taekwon-do with no emphasis on trophies and belts. I really enjoyed it. It's a superb workout and everyone is friendly and encouraging. It really makes a whole world of difference if you have the right instructor. The style itself doesn't really matter much. Anyway, that said I don't go to shows, but I do admire (to an extent), popular martial artists. Of course stars like Ronda Rousey make millions and they're not doing it for "traditional" purposes (believe it or not, most martial artists at least the ones I've met believe that martial arts is about building a peaceful world through training and discipline). Still, the fights can be impressive and I follow the sport to a certain extent. So, I really enjoyed reading this:
"Two top undefeated female mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters step into the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon tonight (Sat., Nov. 14, 2015) for what is expected to be a record-breaking UFC 193 pay-per-view (PPV) event...anyone that would place a bet on her [Holm] is bat-shit crazy, unless they know something a majority of pundits don't. There just doesn't appear to be any which way Holm earns the nod over Rousey because she's not a fast starter."

Followed by this:
"Ronda Rousey was taken to the hospital following her loss to Holly Holm"

You know, no one is perfect, and my instructor always said that failure is part of succeeding. I don't know how Rousey will take it, but honestly I think it's good to have some humility.
