Well, doesn't seem like my cup of tea. Not by a long shoot. Apparently, many Japanese players would agree: "Even in its home region of Japan, Genei Ibun Roku #FE only sold 23,806 copies during its first week. That makes it one of the worse debuts for either franchise. It debuted at #14 on the Media Create charts and was completely gone from the chart's Top 50 a month later." Honestly, I'm surprised this is even being released here in the States. I can't imagine it doing well. If Nintendo had bothered to release a true Fire Emblem (or Zelda -not a remake) for the Wii U, I likely would have purchased the system.

*SIGH*

Still, it's OK since I have a real Fire Emblem game to play, Fates smile
I do have to think that with all the acclaim the last two Fire Emblem games have received, surely Nintendo would be working on a nice Fire Emblem for their new console?

I played and finished the Japanese version earlier this year, and it's actually very good!

It's not a Fire Emblem game at all, it just has some FE characters in it. In terms of gameplay, it's VERY much a MegaTen game in general, and it's very Persona-esque in particular. Combat is what you'd expect from that series, and dungeons are really cool too, so it's actually a blast to play.

BUT, oh my god the writing and characters are terrible. Terrible terrible terrible. TERRIBLE.
This seems to be a staple of the FE series nowadays: objectification of women (especially underage girls) and f---ing stupid dialogue. I really wonder who thinks that this inane bullshit is acceptable nowadays, but Nintendo seems blissfully ignorant of quality standards set by the rest of the industry, as usual.
My wife was literally BEGGING me to finish the game at some point, just because being in the same room while I was playing this game was becoming unbearable.

A new Zelda IS coming to Wii U, and it should be coming this year.
On the other hand, rumors say that they're going to pull a Twilight Princess again and release it on both the Wii U and the NX at roughly the same time, so you can still skip the Wii U if the NX catches your fancy.

I actually don't see Nintendo making a console Fire Emblem any time soon. The series seems to have found a comfortable spot on portable consoles (cheaper to make too!) and I don't see it going back to home consoles.
I don't know why you'd only consider a console FE to be a "true" FE though.

Sorry I must not have been clear. I consider the portable FEs to be true Fire Emblems. When I meant "true", or in this case non-true, I was referring to Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Did you play Birthright and/or Conquest? It definitely has many stereotypical characters. From the "cool" ninja to, to the young female healer, to the ugly and evil mad-power king hmm

Still, I have to say the writing can be quite good at times. Also, some of the female characters are definitely quite powerful and not just weak damsels in distress. At the same time I do agree that it would be nice to see "deeper" characters and storyline. Also, I'm only a few hours into the game, so we'll see. Of all the Fire Emblems, the one I enjoyed the most was Path of Radiance. I thought the story was superbly told, even if again many of the characters were cliché. I enjoyed Radiant Dawn too, but the story got to be a total mess, so that I really didn't care that much in the end. Ah well.

Speaking of clichés and boring characters, I really hope that Zelda actually has an interesting role in the next Zelda game is not just captured and used as bait by Ganon. In fact, can we find a new villain other than Ganon?

Yep, played both of them and I just bought the third path as well, so I'm looking forward to starting that some time in the future. It's a great game, but the writing is just terrible.
I think Treehouse did a good job of localizing this game though, so the writing in English may be better than the original Japanese, which is what I played.

Skyward Sword did not have Ganon, and I believe Zelda didn't get kidnapped, or at least not for the majority of the game, I don't really remember. I think they're exploring new ideas with Zelda story-wise, so you might just get what you want.

Then again, maybe not.

They definitely improved some features on the North American release. Apparently when you invite someone over to your tree house you no longer have to scratch their face or whatever that weird thing was you had to do in the Japanese version hmm
Again I'm only a few hours in, but some of the dialogue did make me laugh which is nice. Hopefully the writing stays decent.
