I'm not talking about someone purchasing a copy of the game, or even two, and then selling it. I'm talking about people like this:

Who purchase 50 (or more) copies on amazon, and then inflate the prices! To be fair, this particular seller is not inflating the prices too much, but it's still annoying for those that actually want the game and get left out in the cold *angry face*

Yeah, scalpers/resellers bloody suck, especially for those who really do want tose LE-sets. But is there anyway to combat those?

I mean, 1 set per purchase limit will be just skipped with scripts or something like that, and so on?

Only allowing one unit to be pre-ordered per shipping address or payment source (ie. credit card number, Amazon account, Paypal account, etc.) would at least help a little bit.

Accepting mail addressed to you at other addresses isn't so difficult, but getting around the rest would be much more of a nuisance for casual scalpers.

Well, when the limited edition preorders for Final Fantasy XV sold out quickly (undoubtedly from resellers), Square made more available to fit the demand.  If only more companies followed this then I think there would be much less issues.  Opening preorders through their own sites as opposed to using retail middlemen would also help.  A third option that I've seen with limited records but not games is actually checking ebay and if they find out who is reselling right away they have been barred from buying in the future...

Nothing can fix this, not even 1/address or limit 'x' per whatever. They will just have throngs of dummy corporate addresses.  The only way to fix this is a full blown lottery system like Japan has for most of their high profile events, which isn't really any better because resellers will still hit the lotto and resell, and those that do the markup will probably be higher because of being harder to get.

Post offices don't necessarily care and will just deliver to the address given.  For PO boxes, the addressee has to be registered as a valid recipient or the mail can be returned to sender (I've had this happen before).

Address scrutiny was the weakest of the items I proposed.  A dummy corporation would have to go to a lot more effort to avoid the inability to use the same payment source for more than one order.  The first workaround I can think of is cash or money order, but a vendor could forbid such payment methods where a unique buyer can't be verified (at least for such a limited edition product).

The fix is to stop making things rare. If they make enough of them to fulfill basic demand, the resellers won't buy them up since they wouldn't be able to make any money on them. Look at the amiibo market now vs. a year ago. A year ago people were scrambling to buy and sell the things because they were so hard to get. Now they're plentiful and no one cares about them.

Indeed, if they took pre-orders before they halt production, anybody that wants to buy a limited edition would have a fair chance to do so.
