I ordered the last Everdrive I really needed today. I had $90 worth of points at Stone Age Gamer, so I got the custom edition for $160. Now I just have to acquire the N64 console, Expansion RAM, and a few controllers.

My console collection just didn't feel complete. I already have the NES, SNES, GCN, Genesis and Turbo Duo, so acquiring the N64 is one step closer to completion (a NEO GEO AES would REALLY make it complete, but that's still not a smart financial move). My concern is with cartridge systems and I got the GCN mainly to play GBA games on a TV.

The only physical N64 cartridge I'm buying is Perfect Dark, for display reasons. It will look good on a shelf. The games I'm most looking forward to playing are Mischief Makers and Jet Force Gemini. I'm surprised how small the complete ROM set is for the N64; there were less than 400 games released across all regions.

Not to come off like a jackass, but I don't find it surprising at all given Nintendo shot themselves in the foot because they didn't want to close their cartridge plant and lose out on those royalties. Also, throw in how much a cart can hold compared to a CD.

Additionally, I know I'm biased but outside maybe like 20 games (unique titles) I think the N64 has one of the worst libraries. A good chunk of those 400 games are sports games most people aren't going to touch again. The sports thing may be true of all consoles but it's amplified in this case with the low game count. Again, I know it's an opinion but really, I'm sick of people spreading the notion that the N64 has this big, robust library. Once you start looking at the games the ones the deserve to stick out are few and the pool is ultimately shallow.

See, you kind of defeated the point being made with the italicized segment. I didn't say like to try, I said like and/or implied worth buying the system for.

After you're done playing all those games I'd like to see what's left.

You probably will like the sidescroller Goemon game.

Add Hybrid Heaven, Buck Bumble, and Custom Robo 64. Also, if possible, the Expansion kit for F-Zero X.

This is an excellent thread - appreciate the recommendations - there is something to be said about a tasteful collection of games, vs an entire library.

an RGB modded N64 is a future purchase for sure...

Of course, we'll see what happens once I get through that list. And then there's The Others - The Hacks. I haven't even started the process of patching ROMs with hacks and checking those out. SM64 alone is going to keep me quite busy - http://www.romhacking.net/?page=hacks&g … ksearch=Go

Thanks. I don't understand people that load up their Everdrives with every ROM for a console. I only want the ROMs for games that I actually like to play, with the exception of NES abominations. I do like to test out many of the NES games that the AVGN tore apart in his videos.

Ok, I'll add those. I also need to add Winback. I didn't grab any DD ROMs, but I guess I'll get them in the off chance that they run.

This thread has me thinking of who I would place as the best third-party company on N64. Right now I'm leaning towards Ubisoft for Buck Bumble and Rayman 2.

edit: Winback is pretty cool so far. (I went out and bought it after you mentioned it.) It's got a red gun laser pointer, it lets you roll similarly to how you long jump in Super Mario 64, and the music perfectly sets the mood of covert action. Going in and out of cover isn't as seamless as I want it to be. I'm curious how the multi-player holds up.

It's been a couple of months--you play any of em?
