First, I have to say that Atlus rocks big_smile
Secondly, if you haven't played Trauma Center, you're missing out on one of the most unique and enjoyable games ever!  Now here's something interesting, according to Atlus, they're releasing a new Trauma Center...for the Wii!!  I guess with the Wii's unique controller it might work very well.  Thoughts?

Again, if you haven't picked up Trauma Center I highly recommend it.  I've only started, but it's unique, fun, and very challenging...

Jay Jun 20, 2006

I enjoyed Trauma Center early on but found that its speed over accuracy gameplay put me off later and missed out on a lot of the potential that goes with the idea of a surgery game on DS. I thought it got fairly weak when they tried upping the difficulty level by just giving you shorter time limits. That's just me...

Idolores Jun 20, 2006

I agree with both of you here. Trauma Centre is incredibly unique, but they really should've toned down the difficulty. At least make the time limits longer.

Angela Jun 21, 2006

First, I have to say that iNiS rocks :D
Secondly, if you haven't played Ouendan, you're missing out on one of the most unique and enjoyable games ever!  Now here's something interesting, according to iNiS, they're releasing a new Ouendan ...entitled Elite Beat Agents!!

Again, if you haven't picked up Ouendan I highly recommend it.  I've finished it two hundred times over, but it's unique, fun, and very challenging...

.... Sorry, I couldn't resist. ;)

iNis?  Who's heard of such a thing... OH! I think you mean the International Nuclear Information System, well yes they are quite awesome!  Here's their website

http://www.iaea.org/inis/

I didn't know they had a hand in this "Quendan", but maybe they have too much time on their hands, kinda like anyone who would play such a game two hundred times over smile

No, I'll stick to my English games, and Atlus!  Ah, and Trauma Center, so original...so awesome...so hard!  I think it's fair to say TC is akin to playing "Operation" while drunk in a sorority party...um, or maybe...ah nevermind tongue

cheers,

Hm, that sounds kind of..... narrow-minded.  Not to start an argument, but more than just Ouendan, I'm surprised that somebody who so actively supports the DS wouldn't be open to suggestions to good titles for the system.  Of course, you seem to have a staunch policy against import video games in general, so I guess it's a lost cause anyway.

Carry on.

Just because some people prefers tea over coffee doesn't make them "narrow-minded"!  If someone wants to import games for the DS, I have no problem.  If someone doesn't want to import games for the DS, why do you have a problem?  Live and let live I say, and again, if someone doesn't agree with you that doesn't make him or her narrow-minded.

No problem, really.  It just seems to me that you might benefit from imports if you'd just open up a little.  After all, you seem to enjoy Trauma Center; a game that's "easy to pick up and leave at will" -- much like Ouendan.  And although my first post in this thread was largely meant to be in jest, it does speak relevant truths: Ouendan is just as unique, fun, and challenging.

It's an entirely different story if you have no access to imports whatsoever.  Which is a bit of an impossibility; you do use the internet, correct? :)  Try a bold choice every now and again.  You may end up pleasantly surprised.

Jay Jun 22, 2006

Having a DS without having Ouendan is like a man with no legs buying a new pair of slippers.

Idolores Jun 22, 2006

Wow, is this Quendan really THAT good? I think I might look into this. Angela, you got me into Gyakuten Saiban, so I trust your taste!

It is sublime.  It was enough to earn my 2005 Game of The Year, if you recall, even in the face of such awesomeness as Phoenix Wright and Resident Evil 4.

As Jay purports, it's a game no DS owner should be without.  No lie.

Idolores Jun 23, 2006

Clinched! As soon as I get some money, I'll go out and look for this title. I still need to pick up Tetris DS and NSMB, too.

I did sell my DS today, in preparation for DS lite. That thing looks amazing. Very Apple-esque.

. . . . I can't believe I said that.

Schala Jun 23, 2006

Huh...I was considering getting Trauma Center, but I figured that if I needed steady hands and precision work and timing, I'd never finish the game. ^_~

Qui-Gon Joe Jun 23, 2006

Ouendan is excellent and you should definitely check it out.  Can't agree that it's better than Phoenix Wright or Biohazard 4, though (my top two picks for the best games of last year).  wink

Crash Jun 23, 2006

I spent eleven hours at airports and on airplanes yesterday, and found myself playing Ouendan much of that time.  I had stopped playing a while ago when I couldn't beat the "Ready, Steady, Go" level on the second difficulty level, so I played that one again a dozen times, and finally beat it.

Then I discovered that that unlocked a higher difficulty.  So, I had to play through that one.  Strangely enough, I found "Ready, Steady, Go" to be considerably easier than it was on the lower difficulty (I passed it on the second try as opposed to the thirtieth).

Congratulating myself on a job well done, I watched the credits again, and was about to turn off my DS...when I saw I had unlocked another difficulty level (the cheerleaders).  Well, I had to try this one.  But my sorry butt was handed to me many times over on the FIRST FREAKIN' LEVEL.  It's going to be a while before I can pass the game on this difficulty.

Ouendan roxorz.

Cheergirls mode rapes everyone; clearly the Ouendan version of Gitaroo Man's Master Play.  They emphasize the 300 marker hits a whole lot more, where it becomes almost essential to nail every one of them as such with perfect accuracy to survive a level.  The upside to this is that once you finally do get the hang of it, it makes snagging those "S" ranks that much easier. :)

Keep in mind that the songs are largely based on the previous mode's rhythm structure, except in reverse.  So if you've mastered hard, you'll likely have a better handle on Cheergirls.  The last few levels tend to throw in a few more additional notes too, however, so be wary of that.

I will say this: once you master Cheergirls mode, it'll make all the previous modes seem like they're moving in slow-motion.  You'll never go back again.

Changing the subject of this thread back to the original topic...
You should get Trauma Center!  Even though you might never get better than a "C" rating on any level...(kinda like me) it's OK!  I figure as long as the patient survives, everyone's happy smile  Besides, you'll have a great time as you try to heal everyone and you get to enjoy a neat story too!

By the way, for those who were considering getting Trauma Center, I've heard it's been discontinued in North America.  On ebay it's selling between $40-50, so this may very well be true.

Thought this topic deserved a bump -- and not just as a means to contribute further to the Ouendan thread hi-jacking. (I am sorry about that, avatar!)  Finally beat the game yesterday, including those bothersome "X" missions.   As means of celebration, I think it's time for an avatar change; she befits me in more ways than one, I think. ;)

TC certainly comes recommended, but be prepared for a major -- if not borderline insane (and frankly sometimes unfair) -- challenge.

Zane Sep 24, 2006

So... I've been played Trauma Center a bit here and there for a while. I haven't beat it yet - just started Chapter 5 a few days ago. The first mission, "Under the Knife", is the most frustrating game-related event I've endured since that time I tried to make my way through the Time Trials in Shadow of the Colossus on Hard. I spent most of my time just trying to stabilize the patients, and never really had a chance to actually, I don't know, SAVE THEM FROM CERTAIN DEATH. The rapid-fire GUILT strain combined with the dozens of cuts on the patient combined with an insanely quick decrease in vitals combined with a ten minute time limit is the DS-equvalent of holy horseshit.

So, yeah. Most of Trauma Center is cool, but Chapter 5 can go suck an ass.

Angela Sep 24, 2006

C5's Under The Knife is pain.  Keep in mind that you only have to save three of the five patients to actually succeed; you'll get a bad rank, but that's likely not a concern for you at the moment.  ;)

The third patient and beyond combines both an infant Kyriaki and an adult one.  Best to kill off the infant first, then the adult, since there's a longer lapse in between cuts.  Save the Healing Touch for when you get to the third patient.  If you hit the fourth patient, and are running out of time, it's best just to keep the vitals up until the timer runs out.

Zane Sep 24, 2006

*breathes*

Thank you, Angie. I'll try to get through those first three patients... the last time I tried I was left with one big Kyriaki and no time/vitals/misses left. The DS flew like a bat out of hell across my room. I'll give it another shot tomorrow sometime.

Zane Oct 6, 2006

Just started Chapter 6, and I've decided that this game is f---ing bullshit. I'm not sure if I'm just impatient or what, but I don't want to spend half of an operation using stabilizer to keep the patient's vitals slightly above 20 and not even have the time to deal with the GUILT I'm trying to eradicate. Even with Healing Touch it's hard to barely keep above water, and I could just be too "casual" of a gamer, but even trying to attempt the later operations are awful. There is absolutely no fun in this game for me anymore whatsoever.

Bull. f---ing. Shit, man. Ugh.

Hehe, I've had those feeling for games before too!  I actually haven't played Trauma Center in a while, and I never got that far.  I do know some of the levels are said to be quite brutal, although you could check and see if gamefaqs can give you some advice.  There are some good TC guides out there... or if you're too pissed to play you could always

a)take a hammer and smash that bloody cartridge
b)sell it on ebay
c)find the developers and stuff the cartridge down their throats, and tell them "time to operate!"... although that might get messy...maybe you shouldn't

cheers,

-avatar!

Zane Oct 6, 2006

Thanks man, but GameFAQs didn't help much. I think either this game sucks too much for me, or I suck too much for the game. I really can't decide, but I'm probably leaning toward the former.

I'm thinking about eBaying it, because games shouldn't be this frustrating. It's supposed to be all about fun! Happy pixel love! Now, Guitar Hero II on the other hand...
