this SUCKS!,, i was listening to Romancing saga 3 ost and as it was changing between disc 2 & 3 the player inside (which raises and lowers to align with the corresponding disc tray being accessed) jammed while clamped down halfway on my disc 3. see the carnage here https://youtu.be/WWk0dEseH4s . i was able to get the discs out by taking the system apart, but when i plugged it back in there is still something messed up and the motor that actuates the grabber height is not functioning.

so now i have two dilemmas,, FIRST: i need to get another copy of RS3 disc 3. SECONDLY, i need to find a replacement home theater system. Ideally i would like a 5 disc changer so it would allow me to load up a 4 disc set and play it straight through ( i work from home), but i know that disc changers are extremely rare nowadays unless purchased as a dedicated standalone component. my JVC TH-C30 was a 1000 watt system that allowed me to hook up the pre-wired 5-channel speakers in my living room ceiling (plus the powered sub). i know a lot of systems out there now use a soundbar but that would defeat the purpose for me.

should i just get the exact one used for $58 https://www.ebay.com/p/JVC-TH-C30-5-1-C … m/98869339 (it doesn't have all the extra crap i dont need since my subwoofer and remote still work) , but otherwise it looks like my chances of finding a disk changer integrated with a 1000w receiver are pretty slim to none. i know some of you guys are extreme audiophiles here and would be eager to chime in with suggestions and recommendationms (jodo?).

the silence in my house this afternoon is like death.

I have no input other than to say that's heartbreaking. On the positive side, at least it's not that hard of a disc to replace...!

i ordered the 58$ one,, it's only the head unit, but i have all the other parts ready to reconnect (it has a special 8-pin JVC subwoofer connector, and then the other speakers connect to the sub, the head unit itself does not have any regular speaker connections.)

it's depressing to see STC so dead. is everyone already camping out to get a SNES classic tomorrow?

Not me, but I did just order a Switch. I think Nintendo is nailing the lineup with the switch, there are some amazing looking games coming out for it.

I think I'm not the only lurker who comes here daily yet hardly ever posts anything. I suppose I should change that and chime in every now and then. Tough to change the lurking habit I've had for the last some 20 years...

Off-topic to the original post, but I feel the same way.  I really was hoping to breathe a little bit of life into this place posting about some of the stuff I picked up over the summer but it's hard to motivate myself to make a bunch of long posts when nobody replies at all to actual discussion about soundtracks.  Would love to see more activity, as I still check this place every day!

As for the disc changer, I'm not nearly as much of an audiophile as a lot of people here traditionally have been.  My two primary ways to listen to game music on CD are via a Muji wall-mounted CD player in my kitchen for downstairs and an old Bose system in my bedroom upstairs that my dad gave to me when he decided he wanted a different version (noooo waaaay would I be able to afford something like that on my own).  I remember even in 2007 or so when I was in Japan my CD changer I had there broke and it was almost impossible to find another one.  I can't imagine how difficult it is now, 10 years later.  hmm

the only thing that sucks is that a 'home theater in a box" typically only has one input other than the 1/8" jack on front. Granted the one i had also had a front usb (rare for a 2006 model), but other than that the only rear input was a single L/R composite one.

some of the newer home theaters have 1-2 hdmi inputs, but i have ZERO use for a blu-ray player, and the only time i even use it for anything other than music is if we rent a dvd from redbox.

someone needs to start an audio company that lets you order custom systems with a-la-carte features. you can order a computer with custom specs already, why not home audio?
