My question is this: What edition/version of Persona 5 should I buy?

Should I stick with the original, standard release?

Or should I go for the Royal Edition, or even the Royal Ultimate Edition?

The descriptions they've provided are kind of hard to read, and I can't really tell exactly what I'm getting.

Having trouble discerning exactly what I'm getting for all the extra money.

Is the Ultimate Edition really all that worth it, or should I just stick with the Royal Edition?

How much money do you wanna spend? Persona 5 is like $20 these days and is a complete experience in and of itself.

I personally would get the Royal edition though. It's the definitive version of the game, plus it's nice to support Atlus.

Don't get the Ultimate edition. Costumes and bonus tracks are not really worth 2/3rds of the price of the game.

Guess I'll go for the Royal Edition, then!

Thanks for the info!

Shocked this hasn't hit Switch yet. Unreal.

Do Atlus and Persona games usually hit Nintendo systems?

Haven't bought a Nintendo console since N64.

That said, Switch looks like it'd be a better investment than the PS4 ended up being.

Been really disappointed with the PS4 and its game selection up until now.

Nier: Automata (they couldn't just call it Nier 2?) was okay, but that was just one game (Sank 72 hours into it just to get all trophies, lol, I NEVER do that with a game!)

The Japanese developers (Square-Enix, Capcom, Konami, etc.) aren't what they used to be, and I don't really care about Western AAA releases anymore, either (Borderlands, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Uncharted, etc.)

Only bought ONE game all of 2019.

I have a PC for all the indie, downloadable-only titles.

Hate to say it, but I just might be completely out this next console generation.

Still working on my PS3 backlog, quite frankly (and backlogs of PSX and PS2 games, too).

Even among the indies you could only find one game to buy?

Personally I stopped dealing with consoles years ago. PC games just have a sense of permanence to them -- I can run games with 15 years ago on mine just fine on my system I bought this year. Add that to the ease of use compared to turning on a console, not having to pay to do anything online, better sales (though this is somehow less true the past couple years) and usually the best looking and performing version, well....I often wonder why some so-called hard core gamers are still so fixated on console gaming. There's very few games that I want that aren't released on PC, and the ones that are tend to be specific system only -- and others which were before aren't now.

That's right.

I'm as surprised as you are.

Only one brand new game released that year (2019) was one I absolutely had to have.

Anodyne 2:

Paid full price for it too, and far as I'm concerned, worth every red cent.

If you like N64/PSX era platformers and classic top-down Zelda adventure games, you'll love Anodyne 2.

Relatively open-ended, there are about 3 or so phases in the story, and amongst each phase, you have a choice of 3-4 or so dungeons you can tackle in any order within that phase.

Do Atlus and Persona games usually hit Nintendo systems?

Atlus has developed and published for Nintendo, yeah. Persona hit the 3DS with Persona Q (I think they're on their third one now?), and ShinTen has had a presence on the DS and 3DS.

I'm not sure if it's a rights thing or not. If it is, why did we get the Q series, or Scramble?

I'm reasonably certain it can't be issues with the tech. The Switch has enough power, I'm sure.

It's certainly not a rights issue. Atlus has had a super strong showing on Nintendo platforms. Early next year a remaster of SMT 3 Nocturne is coming out. Then sometime in 2021 SMT V is also coming to Switch as well. In Japan the Persona 5 Musou game is for Switch and PS4. I honestly believe it has to do with the power of the Switch. The thing can chug on the Link's Awakening remake. Something as huge as P5R is a wee outlandish. I realize the OG P5 also came out on the PS3 but even then they would have to redo all the Royal content for the Switch version.

The MegaTen games on Nintendo consoles are among my favorite.
