...How a lot of cell phone ringtones lately sound like video game music? At least, Motorola's ones do.
And this has been your random thought for the day. ^_~

I deleted all the factory ring tones on my phone, and loaded it down with ringtones I made using a wav editor. Mom's ringtone is "Temple" from Actraiser Symphonic Suite. The Afterburner arranged tune was my main ringtone for a while. One of my fav ringtones is the Greatest American Hero theme...that one get's a lot of attention.
My ring tones are still midi based and sound generally awful. I think I need a new phone.
My ringtone is "Kazumi Totaka's Song" (also known as "Totakeke Tune") that plays, among other places, after the letter O blows up when you click it on the Mario Paint title screen. Given how infrequently my phone rings, the "what the hell is that?" quality of the tune suits my phone perfectly.
One of my friends has a custom ringer for me. Apparently, every time I call, he's greeted to "I like big butts."
In retaliation, I made his ringer the Hallelujah chorus. Somehow, his seems more insulting.
Years back, before I realised that ringtones were the very work of the Devil himself, I programmed the tune from Bubble Bobble into mine.
Now it just goes ring ring.
Now it just goes ring ring.
You, sir, are an endangered and borderline extinct species.

Mine especially.. cause it's "Up & Up" from Bare Knuckle.

My phone is generally set to vibrate, but I do use ringtones I've downloaded as my morning alarms. When you can actually hear them, they are:
Mario & Luigi Partners in Time - battle theme
Live A Live - Megalomania
Kingdom Hearts - Gummi Ship
Smash Bros. Brawl - main theme
Heh... my "caller in my address book" ring is Vampire Killer.
"unknown caller" is Level 6 (Energy Zone) from Contra. :)
Back when I had a Nokia 3650, it was the DragonQuest 1 overworld theme.
Lately though, I turn the sound off and it just vibrates when I get a call, which is about... twice a month.
I honestly don't get calls very often either, but being that this is Japan, I get quite a few emails every day, which also get ringtones.
do cell phones get as many telemarketer calls as landlines? i dont have a cell and dont plan on getting one any time soon. I pretty much just use the voice mail for the landline because im sick of answering the phone and getting a recorded sales pitch or telemarketer... the government do-not-call list registry isnt too effective.

I haven't received any telemarketer calls on my cell phone. Sprint sent me some stupid text messages, but that's about it.
I only got a telemarketer call from my own bank once (on landline), and after I told them to go to hell and threatening them to go to another bank in that one call they never did that again. Afaik unrequested calls for the purpose of advertising are completely illegal here.

Do you really get that many calls from telemarketers? The only ones I ever got (knock on wood) were ones from a rival phone company every so often trying to convince me to switch long-distance providers. Oh yeah, and some person who snookered me into getting $700 worth of magazines a few years back. I guess it's a good thing when the phone number is registered in the name of someone who's far out of the target demographic...
As for ringtones and VGM, back when Nokia had a composer on their phone, I figured out the tune of Terra's Theme on my sister's phone. That was before I tried looking stuff up online and found that others had already figured out the tune. ^_~ My bro's friend had the Zelda overworld theme on his for awhile.
Speaking of telemarketers and junkmail senders in general - there's a pretty cool service here in the UK you can sign up to, and it essentially makes it illegal for companies to bother you with unsolicited mail or calls. I signed up to the phone and mail ones and haven't heard a peep from cold callers or junkmail since (going on three years or so now).
Mail Preference Service and Telephone Preference Service, folks.
I've only got a few marketing calls on my cell phone, and they were all from my bank, insurance company and such. So, none of those annoying and bothering "buy this, order that" calls. I hate to say this, but I've worked for as a telemarketer a short time, and I hated it even though it wasn't just selling something like a magazine, but collecting funds for an anti-drugs program. I knew how annoying it is to get a such call. I wasn't too good at it because I felt too sorry for the people that got to be my victims...
When it comes to ring tones, I have personal tones for the people most frequently calling me. That would be five people. Additionally, I have organized many other people into groups. For example, I have three groups of friends. All groups have their own ring tones. Then there's one for numbers that have no group, one for SMS and of course alarm. I use exclusively mp3s of vgm, lots of Sakuraba's music, but also some Kikuta, Fujimori, Falcom etc. I change them every now and then so that I don't get bored of hearing them all the time. Those beepy ring tones were annoying, but mp3 tones are something completely different. I love the endless possibilities that mp3 tones bring.

U.S. law currently prohibits unsolicited telemarketers from calling you on your cell. The most that could happen is that if you gave your cell phone number to a business you have dealt with directly. They might call you about new offers or your existing business.
well in 4 days ill be dumping the phone company as soon as my transfer to vonage is complete...
