Campaign has 48 hrs left. Needs another $8k

Reasons I'm personally backing it and taking time to post about it elsewhere (something I very rarely do...)

- Music by Hiroki Kikuta. Yeah, he of Secret of Mana fame. In recent years, his best work has been on smaller projects where he can dictate the timing and the scope of the music.
- Additional music from Dale North, he of Destructoid fame. His music, both OST and arranged, have always been a delight.
- A story based on actual events. I love fantasy that melds with personal narrative. They even reveal the source material, a documentary called "The Wire Nest."
- You play as a young girl, and you meet some giant critter that's a cross between Where The Wild Things Are and Totoro. That's adorable.
- The game is claiming to be equal parts platformer and RPG. The exploration mode looks a heck of a lot like Suikoden (character height vs map and the fixed camera perspective of 2D on a 3D-ish environment).

I think it's like $10 to reserve a copy of the game. More money gets you more bonuses. I think at $100 you get an LE physical copy that's mocked up to look like a PS1 game (they have demo art for this on their page).

Please consider backing. I don't want this game to not happen. tongue

How much is Scarlet Moon's cut for this "deal".

I kind of understand your cynicism but still I think that's taking it too far. I feel very sure that Ramza wouldn't post about a Kickstarter he is interested in and backing unless, well, he was interested in and backing it.

Sorry if it was taken negatively, but I'd just like to see some transparency. The only ones who I have seen mention this project are Arcubalis and Ramza, members of Scarlet Moon, who have represented both North and Kikuta on other indie projects before. Both artists' involvement is only guaranteed if the KS raises at least over 50K (40K for North, 50 Kikuta).

This is buried in the project page and not explicitly stated up front, nor in their advertising. And I can't imagine they're marketing it for free.

I saw this posted on vgmdb a while ago and, while the prospect of Kikuta actually doing something sounds pretty good, I'm fairly certain it'll be one, two songs tops and North will do the rest.  I don't really have any vested interest other than that so I'll pass.  Not really a huge indie game fan, or to be honest, a game fan in general lol.

Arcubalis Mar 20, 2015

Hey, Jayson here. I signed on to Unraveled first and foremost to provide music through Kikuta and Dale. I thought this game would be a slam dunk, honestly, but you're likely aware of how toxic Kickstarter has become. This is the tenth Kickstarter campaign I've supported, and it gets harder each time!

Those stretch goals will not be met at this point, but I'm going to do everything in my power to ensure they write at least something for the game if funded with the idea that the soundtrack will be made available on Scarlet Moon Records to recoup some of that missing upfront funding.

And no, marketing is not free. Providing a pie chart of their budget would be a great idea (probably a little late now). Not going to discuss numbers, because that would be tacky, but rates vary depending on the situation for each project. If a developer is on Kickstarter because they have no money, though, you can probably deduce what their marketing budget is if they fail to get funding. wink

Only thing bit odd (and perhaps annoying) is that I only heard of this project this week, and that's mostly thanks to Ramza and Arcubalis either posting it here or VGMdb or tweeting. Of course, could be that I've missed the initial advertising of this. Pity that I currently don't have the funds to drop (in the case if this would get funded) into this, nor this doesn't seem to get funded, the idea and story sounds really good.

You want to see transparency? Head to ANY article I've ever written that even remotely involves Scarlet Moon on OSV or RPGFan. In those statements, I happily disclose that I have, *in the past,* had a professional relationship with Jayson (Arcubalis) as he was head of OSV for years, and we still maintain a close personal relationship. I try not to allow that to have any bias, but to whatever extent it does, that's exactly why I give fair warning.

BEYOND THAT? I am *not* a member of Scarlet Moon, I have *never* represented Kikuta or North, and any linking I've done for any Kickstarter, EVER, I've been paid a total of zero cents for it. Jayson is running a business, and I respect him for that. Me? This is a fun hobby and I like seeing good people and underdogs succeed, which is why I'm so heavily involved in the indie scene and in Kickstarter (check my stats, I think I've put funds on over 100 KS projects, whether $1 or $100).

So Zorb, I'll happily be looking forward to your apology for failing to do your research and for insinuating I'm some kind of shill or lacky -- it's an offense to my character. If *I* am posting a link here, or there, or anywhere, I'm not getting one damn red cent and I don't care. What I DO get is, if the project were funded, then the $10 I put towards it gets me the game. THAT'S IT.

bump.

Rough version of main theme for Unraveled up. From Kikuta.

Funding didn't happen on first try, so the KS campaign was re-launched.

And no, I still am *not* working for Scarlet Moon or for Kikuta or for the Unraveled dev. Just so we don't revisit THAT little fiasco.
