Along with the thread for video game Kickstarter projects, let's have a thread for the purely VGM-based projects looking for funding out there.

First up is The Player's Score, a documentary "following cover bands, composers and conventions to showcase the cultural and personal impact of video game music."

Funding is for the production team "to travel to the East coast, attend the Music and Gaming Festival in Maryland, and interview internationally based composers," with a stretch goal for the team to fly to Japan to continue their work there.  Artists already included in the project (I assume that means interviewed) include Austin Wintory, Jake Kaufman, and The Megas, while Hiroki Kikuta, Manami Matsumae, Grant Kirkhope, Norihiko Hibino, Tommy Tallarico and more have agreed to participate upon funding.  Rewards include the original soundtrack by Jake Kauffman, a Blu-ray copy of the documentary, and more.  The funding period for the project ends October 11, 2014.

Next is the game Band Saga, "a modern action roguelike where every level, enemy and item is generated by music... every melody and every sound is synthesized in real time as you play."  The game is planned for iOS, PC, Mac and Linux, with consoles and extra audio features targeted as stretch goals.

Funding ends October 1, 2014, and a preview EP of the soundtrack is already available on Bandcamp.

This could be very helpful since they are not that common and are not under the games umbrella on kickstarter.

Just an update that there are 4 days left to fund The Players' Score for any who would like to see this VGM-centric documentary produced.

"[Nuren] The New Renaissance" is an original virtual reality music video collection by Jake "virt" Kaufman and Jessie Seely, experienced either via a traditional mouse-and-monitor setup or in VR via the Oculus Rift. The project has reached $39,000 of its $70,000 funding goal with six days left to go, and includes a $50 funding tier that along with the finished product includes digital downloads of all 15 of Jake Kaufman's Bandcamp-released albums, along with previously unreleased material.

From the Nuren Kickstarter page:

[NUREN] is a collection of music videos forming a feature-length story, presented in virtual reality. Unlike a traditional 3D movie, [NUREN] is rendered in real-time on your computer, so you can look in any direction, and see things happening all around you. Each segment has its own unique artistic style, set to a gorgeous vocal music track, with voice-acted interludes tying them all together. Join the android twins, RIX and QGK, as they go from fugitives to heroes!

[NUREN] combines influences from sources including Fantasia, Space Channel 5, TRON, Ghost in the Shell, Pink Floyd's "The Wall", the Animatrix, and the technically and artistically brilliant PC demo scene. Dancing robot girls, synchronized light shows, vast panoramas, and starry skies await you.
...

While our first segment shows a dark and moody cityscape, that's only the beginning. A different art team will work on each track, from hand-drawn animation to modern 3D, from sterile laboratories to burning deserts.

[NUREN] is designed to look gorgeous and run smoothly on traditional displays, using mouse controls to look around, but if you have a chance to experience it on an Oculus Rift head-mounted display, the feeling of immersion defies belief.

Considering how easy the original CD is to get, I'm not sure what the point of the CD stretch goal is, especially since it costs far more than the original. Link for reference: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/MHCL-341

I guess it's time to start kicking sense into the kickstarters, rather than cents. I came across that earlier and just thought they were flipped out crazy.

That reminds me, the official Tomb Raider Suite by the composer of the first few games, which is also the first and only thing I ever backed on Kickstarter, is supposed to come out in a few months.

I really like what I've heard so far, so I have high hopes!
