This is old news it seems but I'm just now finding out about it.  Apparently Jump Magazine has reported that the PS3/Vita remake Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will have about 60 new arrangements by Masashi Hamauzu.

I'm not a huge fan of FFX OST myself but still I'll be very curious to hear how Hamauzu arranges the material.

There will be a blu-ray release of the FFX HD Remaster Soundtrack released Dec 25.  still hasn't popped up yet for pre-order.  Also the FFX-2 OST gets a reprint with some bonus tracks and expanded liner notes (and no copy control this time since it's published by Square Enix).

This is a little off topic but am I the only one that wishes they'd give us a release date for the actual game already? All the advertisements say 2013... but I'd like an release date.

Pretty sure this is legit, as it basically sounds like a Sigma Harmonics-era Hamauzu arrangement of Besaid Island:

Ooooooh, REALLY digging this one.
I loves me some Sigma Harmonics-era Hamauzu (probably my favorite Hamauzu flavor) and this sounds right up my alley.
My anticipation for this game just shot through the roof!

Damn that Besaid Island arrangement is good. Makes me want to buy that bluray of the HD remastered soundtrack. Too bad that won't get regular cd-release though.

There's been a lot of complaints about this from FFX fans. I haven't listened to almost any of it yet, anyone here have thoughts?

You know, I didn't want to take the wind out of anyone sails but am I the only one that doesn't see the point of changing any of the music in this game? I'm trying to not act like an ass about it but I was fine with the game just being a straight HD remaster with the International extras added on. Considering how long this is game was rumored to be in development (eons) and then how ALL the advertisements said 2013 until the REAL released date dropped I'd don't know why I even still want the thing.

I've been interested in the remaster OST mostly from a curiosity standpoint, and have been posting what I've found since I figured some other people wanted to keep up with it, but I have similar feelings overall. So far everything I have heard has either been "Damn, this song is pretty cool (from a novelty perspective)!", like the Besaid Island remix, or "This song doesn't seem necessary/isn't as enjoyable to me as the original". After hearing FFX's music for upwards of 13 years, it's hard for me to hear new arrangements that are so structurally close to the original. The old OST is in my blood at this point.

Definitely. While I'm not too big on FFX's soundtrack I'm pretty accustomed to the way my favorite tracks sound.

i hope this doesn't turn into another Seiken Densetsu 2 rearrange.  I have to wait longer for my copy to come in because customs goofed on the value of the package.  they forgot to move the decimal point.  my package of stuff from japan did not have a value of over 10 grand!  morons.

Amazingu Jan 3, 2014

Playing through the game now (not very far yet) and most of the arrangements don't do much for me (I was never a huge fan of the original OST though), but I do quite like the new Besaid theme.

Alcahest Jan 3, 2014 (edited Jan 3, 2014)

protip1: have your original FFX OST not far when listening to this one as certain tracks have been altered so much (in a less than desirable way imho) that you'll crave listening to the real deal asap. ^^;

protip2: the bd extra > update is taking _ages_, you may want to check/listen to the disc before updating..

All in all I *much* prefer the original tracks, although you'd expect a better choice of instruments and new twists in the melodies in this bd, most of the new arrangements sound like early/alpha versions to me; less elaborate instruments selection and mixing. I must say I'm a die-hard fan of the original OST so I'm curious if someone who's not can actually forget the source material and enjoy this..

Not a waste of time but quite.. unnecessary for the most part.

This. I'm okay with sticking with the originals, from what I've heard so far.

I'm near the end of the game so I've heard most of the arrangements, and although there's a lot of stinkers, there's some really good ones too (mainly the Hamauzu stuff), so yeah I'm in the "like" camp as well.

Is that as in the Hamauzu arrangements or the arrangements of Hamauzu's compositions?  Did he do all the arranging for the redone pieces or was it a collaborative effort?

Ah, I guess I should have been clearer about that: I meant the arrangements of Hamauzu's compositions.
I don't actually know who arranged what.

Adam Corn Jan 23, 2014

Yeah I did peruse the VGMdb notes (props for posting those) but when you see for example "Composer: Nobuo Uematsu / Arranger: Junya Nakano", that's crediting Nakano's arrangement in the original OST, right?  Just curious if there's any clear information about credits for the new arrangements.

Also, looking at the VGMdb thread I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks these Blu-ray releases are a stupid idea.
