Okay, here's one to keep you busy for a while:  did Junko Tamiya compose the soundtracks to the NES games Chip 'n Dale and DuckTales?  I'm almost positive based on what I've heard and what she's credited with (Darkwing Duck, Bionic Commando and Little Nemo: The Dream Master) that she is, but with the game having no ending credits, it's hard to say for sure.

I seem to be obsessed with finding old artists seeing what they've done.

I've searched for many years on who did such soundtracks including the Rescue Rangers. The mystery sails on, along with the shadowy composer for the original TMNT on NES. If there's no credit list or interview revealing the true artist, you will never know, unfortunately.

DuckTales was apparently composed by Yoshihiro Sakaguchi. I don't think anyone's been able to find out who did Rescue Rangers (or the DT and RR sequels).

As for TMNT, the name floating out there for that one is Keizo Nakamura.

What's your source for those credits? Bionic Commando is wildly different-sounding than the company it's being mentioned in here, so that sounds a little fishy to me. Nemo doesn't have any credits in-game and B. Commando simply lists the composer as "Gondamin".

I got my credits from here:

and here:

The compositions share similar traits which is why I thought she might have been responsible for some of the other Capcom games.

How did you find this out?

There's also Kozo Nakamura, who still works for Konami doing Bemani/Guitarfreaks stuff. This man did TMNT (known as TMNT II: The Arcade Game) and Manhattan Project. However, there's no indication at all if he or "Keizo Nakamura" did in fact compose for the original TMNT.

I've heard that Yoshihiro Sakaguchi did Mega Man 1&2 as Yuukichan's Papa, but I haven't heard that he did DuckTales.  Is there a source on this one?

Ashley Winchester Oct 10, 2007

That's what always drove me nuts about the (original) Rockman music, those "pen/pet names" or whatever you want to call them were so damn inconvenient... when tagging my mp3's I really don't like putting stuff like "BunBun" and "Apple" in the composer field - I like actual names.

Don't know. It's a pretty commonly cited bit, but I have no clue where it came from.

I thought Yoko Shimomura did Little Nemo!?

She composed the music for the Arcade game Nemo, not the NES game. I've never gotten to hear that one.

Amazingu Oct 11, 2007

D'oh! I never knew that.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Sent an email off to Capcom.  They should reply within 8 business hours, although I'm not getting my hopes up.

Did anyone ever confirm the Sakaguchi/Ducktales connection? All I've seen through a Google search is that he's been attributed to the game, but nowhere with any evidence or explanation of how they found out the info. Same with Tamiya and Darkwing Duck. I'm not incredulous to the info, but I'd rather have confirmation.

allyourbaseare Feb 27, 2008

I think Tamiya is in the credits of Darkwing Duck, but I'm not certain.  No word from Capcom on Ducktales.  I don't think they know/remember.

Warpstar Feb 27, 2008

There aren't any credits in Darkwing Duck.

Carl Feb 28, 2008 (edited Feb 28, 2008)

The Producer/Director of the game titles would be the best person to ask, as they know with 100% certainty who did the music...    But without any ending credits, you're still in the same boat of not knowing THAT info either.

Liontamer Feb 28, 2008

Yeah, it's weird. I just don't like seeing how other sites list those credits pretty definitively when I've seen no proof. It just seems like best-guess level info that somehow propagated to other websites.
