if you're a gamer and like shooters there is absolute no reason not to get this, 800 points?
that's a nice surprise, this game defined FPS's in 2000,
very few games are as magical as Rareware stuff is, very distinguishable style and incredibly fun.
and it looks fabulous, 60 frames per second, running in 1080p with redone textures, why march is so far away?
hehe.
this game is an absolute gem.

if you have doubts, this is one of the highest ranked games of all time, averaging at 97/100!

I'm obviously super excited,
are you?

An improved version of a game from 2000 that I still like better than every single FPS released since then?  I'm in.  ESPECIALLY at 10 bucks.  The only thing they could add that would make me happier would be the inclusion of all the Goldeneye maps to make up for the lack of that game on XBLA.

Also, did anyone see the video of Ken Lobb playing it?  "Hey, that's my gun!  ...it's still crap!"  Hilarious.

Idolores Feb 12, 2010

Holy shit, only $10? I gotta start jumping onto the XBLA marketplace more for these incredibly solid, yet reasonably cheap games!

Awesome news! Definitely looking forward to this. Unfortunately I missed Perfect Dark back in the day (did log many hours into Goldeneye 007 though) so this is the perfect opportunity to fix this mistake. big_smile

That website cracks me up. I don't think I've ever seen so much pretentious shit gathered into one place.

Great news for all Goldeneye fans.

Not only few maps from Goldeneye will be included into PD Remake but ENTIRE ARSENAL OF WEAPONS FROM GE007!!! (these guns were only present behind glass at Datadyne Institute and could not be used in PD back in N64).

This basically means the entirety of Goldeneye's multiplayer will be available to peruse. I love it!

You do love linking to these Insomnia write-ups, vert.  Are you Kierkegaard, by chance?

I was wondering that myself.

This kinda reminds me...I wonder how many people remember that the much-hyped Perfect Dark Zero was supposed to be the 360's killer app at launch and pretty much flopped. I had forgotten until discussion of this one started up.

Was the game really that bad, or was it a case of the game just not being as good as the original material?

GoldfishX Feb 15, 2010

You're asking the wrong person, as I can't tell one FPS from another normally. But I just know the game was in development for eons and it was supposed to be Rare's big moment since leaving Nintendo and the overall consensus was that it was very average for a supposed killer app (especially for a system replacing one before the usual 5-year span). More than a few articles I read were none too kind to it, both in EGM and Game Informer. I was more or less lamenting at how forgotten it seems to have become, a few years into the 360's lifespan.

It was the latter.

PDZ is not that bad of a game, it's just nowhere near as good as the original, and it feels kinda clunky.

I don't think that's true, actually - I don't see any indication that there are any Goldeneye maps in the game that aren't the three that were included in the original version.  Now if they'd include things like the Library and Bunker THEN I'd be even more excited.

I keep hoping against hope that the entirety of Rare's efforts on N64 are ported to XBLA. They were probably the strongest developer for the system, at least in my eyes. Jet Force Gemini and Goldeneye notwithstanding, they had so much on that system worth talking about.

I still consider Rareware efforts this generation to be well above the competition.
as far as new games(excluding remakes):
Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero were only very good all things considered.
Both Viva Pinata and Banjo Kazooie:Nuts & Bolts are absolutely brilliant, games you won't see anywhere else, just full of imaginative, colorful ideas and filled with polish through and through.
in a world of bland shooters with gray colors, that means a quite a lot.
