Picked this up because well, it's Kanno.  And it's really, really good.  Some of her recent work has been somewhat disappointing (Macross Frontier, Kids on the Slope), although disappointing by Kanno standards is still pretty good overall.  I love the experimental arrangements and instrumentation, it's perfect.  And the vocals aren't forced, strained or cheesy like most anime vocals tend to be.

First I've heard about this one.  The title implies horror/suspense - is that the case?

Have to say I did a "Whaaa?" when I first read that.  I do find most of the Jpop songs in Macross F to be crap, and a few of the orchestral pieces are too blatantly similar to Independance Day for comfort, but still the other instrumental and orchestral pieces make up for it.  I'd just about buy Vol 1 for "Aimo" and Vol 2 for "Shadow of Michael" alone.

Honestly, I have no idea.  I barely watch anime these days.

Me either.  I just meant the music. smile

It's experimental, ambient, drone and electronic with hints of jazz.  Very repetitive themes but very good ones.  I'd say techno-horror, if that's a thing.

*edit*

Also, the contrary to most anime and game albums, the vocals are not terrible.

To be honest, I cant' stop listening to this score. It's phenomenal. The music worked so well in the series, but on its own its very powerful and moody.
I recently got into the Image Comic series Saga, and read most if it listening to this score, surprisingly it also worked very well to a lot of the scenes in that comic series. A few themes could qualify as the theme music for Prince Robot and other characters.

If you haven't picked this one up yet. It's fantastic. Volume 2 is out next week!
