Soundtrack Central The best classic game music and more

Adam Corn Jan 16, 2006

Some of you have been looking forward to this, some of you not so much so, but the new forums are here and I've done my best to make them a similar but ultimately superior experience to the old system.

If you notice any quirks in the design or functionality please post here and I will look into them.  The feature set is pretty much decided for the time being but if there are any features that you feel are out of place or are sorely missing, by all means speak up!

Just to comment on a few of the features/changes...

- Polls no longer have their own forum.  Feel free to post your polls in the forum of appropriate topic and we'll see how that goes for now.

- Registration (including an e-mail address) is now required to post.  Fortunately you have the option of hiding your e-mail address from the general public while still allowing people to contact you via the forums' form e-mail, which I recommend.  Still, although I'm fairly confident in the security of these forums from spammers, as a general rule I recommend you register an e-mail address other than your main one (an extra hotmail account, for example).

- Use of cookies to automate login is optional.  One thing to be aware of is that if cookies are enabled, they will be automatically set on any PC from which you log in and until you log out from it.  So after logging in from public PCs be sure to log out after, or if you're worried about forgetting just disable cookies altogether.

Everything else is pretty self-explanatory I think.  The fresh forums look a little lonely for now but I'm looking forward to seeing them grow!  Post away,

Adam

Hm... feels a lot different, but I'm sure that we'll eventually get used to it. :x

I'm all for it. smile
Viva the new community! big_smile

New Forums..NICE!! :-)

Dragon God Jan 16, 2006

Very nice !  Great work Adam big_smile It'll take a bit getting used to, but I'll manage smile

I especially like the options to disable signature lines and avatars if desired.  I can't count the number of times I've been on some other foum where someone's signature takes up 80% of their post space.  That feature will help retain the feel of the classic board.

the_miker Jan 16, 2006

Awesome!  I like it. smile

fusoya Jan 16, 2006

Looks very slick Adam.  Well done!  :-)

KujaFFman Jan 16, 2006

This is a very good idea. Good job!

Quasi Jan 16, 2006

I liked the old forums, but I certainly understand the need for registration.  I'm sure these new forums will work out well, thanks for working on this.

jb Jan 16, 2006

I've been waiting almost 8 years for this!

Qui-Gon Joe Jan 16, 2006

While I considered changing my name at this point to reflect what I use elsewhere (and to reflect the disdain I generally have toward Star Wars Episode 1), I left myself as this since I've been posting under this name for way too many years.  Anyway, good to see the new stuff up and running... nice job, Adam!

Benny Jan 16, 2006

Dayum... Remember the old old system... I used to use it! lol Nice to see things are finally moving along. Bout time it got a replacement!

XISMZERO Jan 16, 2006

Ooooh!

Godai Jan 16, 2006

Hooray!  It's finally happening. smile

Ahh, I knew the day would finally come.  Still has that old "STC look," but it will certainly take me some time getting used to it.  STC is about the only forum I visit these days, aside from an occasional visit to SD every now and then.  Anyway, nice work Adam.  Good to see the site moving forward.

My god Benny, you're alive.  Let me know if you're ever up for some VM or VM Japan online.  Just like the old days. smile

Hehe... I felt similarly, and almost signed up as oddigy.  Old habits die hard, though.

Yeah, this forum format is definitely growing on me.  I've always preferred flat discussions to threaded ones.

Ha ha of course. Haven't played that game for ages. Think I forgot what each avatar does now.  Ya know you're the only person I've really played it with. Interesting thing to note is that VM2 Online is now a free download from Falcom (and in English!). Never could find anyone to play VM Japan though. ^^

Still lurked on the old forums every once in a while but uh... never really posted for some reason. Haven't really been in the scene much these past few years.

Very nice. :) This should encourage me to post more instead of just lurking and buying, hehe. :P

Not that I matter or anything, but I fully endorse these new forums.

They aren't as cluttered as vB and still simplified like the old ones.  I hate complex forums with 10,000 unused options.  The login feature should help with any ID issues and spammers.

I think readability on this one is more awkward.  I liked the usenet style forum posts of the old one, that way I could ignore subthreads that were going in a direction I didn't care about.

Harry Jan 19, 2006

I'm only relatively new here, but the new design is great! Good job!

POPOBOT5000 Jan 19, 2006

I love the old, simple look and think it integrates with the rest of the site well. Hopefully that will make those reluctant to the change a little more acceptant.

It's been a long time coming, and it looks great!

Jay Jan 19, 2006

Nice! I like that the look of the old boards has been retained. It has a nice feeling of simplicity.

Yes, the lack of threads as well as the splitting into pages makes this one a lesser experience than the former board for me.

Edit: Ah, just looked into the display option. No threading, but I disabled everything except images in posts, and raised the numbers of posts per page to the max possible 75, I guess that will help me a little...

Stephen Jan 19, 2006 (edited Jan 19, 2006)

Finally, a welcome change.  Thanks for making the switch.  While the threading of the old forums was nice, the rampant spamming really ruined the experience.  punBB is a nice forum software to use for this site.  It's not as overly complex as Vbulletin or phpBB.

BAMAToNE Jan 19, 2006

I think I will like these new forms. Yes I do. smile

Flexar Jan 19, 2006

Wow. Now this was a surprise.

Looking good, but it's just gonna take time to get used to this.

dma Jan 19, 2006

Sweet! smile

Msia Jan 19, 2006

Looks good, thanks.

Like Xana and Amber I was also thinking of changing my name, but eventually didnt do it. Still don't understand why I began posting here under my real name, while everywhere else on the internet I've always used one nick (except for SlightlyDark).

Oh, bout the new forums. Well, change is inevitable. One thing I might miss is the quick 'n effective (nt) posts ^_^
