Angie, link's busted. It's picking up the "..." as part of the actual URL. hmm

Zane Sep 19, 2006

Nice, Pete. Thanks, man. It's definitely sounding much better than those disappointing MIDI samples we all heard a week or two ago.

Angela Sep 19, 2006

Ah, sorry 'bout that.  GMR's got the tracklisting up now, and it looks positively stellar. (Though, Harry, to be completely accurate, Souin's Genealogy should actually be "Kurain's Genealogy," and "Godo" is actually "Godot.")

But wow.... we get a hell of a lot of musical high points from the trilogy, including the Narahodou theme variations, the Steel Samurai, the Gyakuten Sisters' Theme, and the three Courtroom Suites.

The Kurain medley is so far my favorite, even in its midi track form.  I can't wait to hear the final orchestration.

Ah, thanks for that. Corrected now.

Just another mention here that Magical Trick Society's Phoenix Wright doujin album CADENZA is made available to download.  Grab the full 80 MB-sized .rar file here.  It is AWESOME.  ^_^

Thanks for that. The album, I'd say, vacillates between completely awesome (Investigation ~ Cornered and Jailer's Elegy) and bitterly disappointing (Tonosaman and the Victory Theme). Par for the course for fan arranges, but very glad to have it all the same.

So far, so good. I'm actually really happy with how the album has turned out so far. Granted, I've only heard a few tunes, but the orchestrations are pleasant, sound quality is good, and the themes are just as fun as they are on the DS OST. Nice stuff!

The final album turned out to be quite excellent, I think.  Again, the track selection is spot-on fantastic, covering much of the musical high points of the trilogy.  Some of the backing instrumentation still feels a bit too synthesized in a few cases, and the brass does feel like it's laid on a bit thick in places, but the overall arrangement and medley ensemble is fantastic.  I love the operatic feel of the score, with the recurrent throwbacks to certain melodies -- the Gyakuten Sisters' Theme, in particular -- which really comes to ahead by the time we reach "GS3 End/Epilogue."

Surprisingly, the track I thought I'd enjoy the least, "Gyakuten Saiban 2 - Courtroom Suite," ultimately turns out to be one of my favorites.  In fact, both this and the "Investigation - Mystery Suite" that Naoto Tanaka arranged are both superb.  I was a touch disappointed with the "Gyakuten Saiban 3 - Courtroom Suite," the track I was looking most forward to hearing.  It just feels they could've done quite a bit more, particularly with the Questioning/Cross Examination portion.

"Kurain Genealogy" is still my favorite, simply for the thematic choices they've used for the medley; the spiritual side of the series' music, and a track, I think, one would gain more appreciation for as they progress through the next two games.

Oh yes, and of course, "Godot - Fragrance of Dark Coffee."  Piano, strings, sax, all coming together in perfectly delicious harmony.  That's the finest cup of joe, right there.

I just finished listening to it and I'm quite pleased.  Recommended.

I was pleasantly surprised with the results as well.

They really pulled off the faster-paced songs quite nicely by providing enough energy which those courtroom tunes required.  There's 2 or 3 songs on here which would be lasting candidates for any future "best of.." compilation for this series.

I'm a little confused, are you guys talking about the orchestra album or the doujin album still?  =p

The Orchestra album (re: yesterday's post)

Stephen Nov 20, 2006

I just got this album.  This does not sound like live orchestral music.   Maybe there are some samples taken from live music, but it sounds artificial.  In fact, the instrument set is very close to what Noriyuki Iwadare used for Grandia.

The music is pretty good, but I wasn't sure if this is live or synthesized.
