What an odd mix! Both thinking games, though the visual styles don't quite fit for me at all. And yet I can't help think that this crossover could be absolutely superb, with loads of humour and plenty of puzzles.

And just think of what they could do with the music.

The 3DS was a must-have for me anyway but now, well, it's... em, still a must-have but, like, more so.

I just hope this video game adaptation works out better than another famous team up (that was only in anime movie form) of Meitantei Conan and Lupin III.  That movie was a travesty.... and the two art styles didn't really mesh all that well either.

the only reason for me to buy a 3DS so far. let's see if they can deliver a good mix of genres.

Boco Oct 19, 2010

This is ridiculous and awesome all at the same time. I wasn't planning on getting a 3DS, but this might be able to change my mind. It's fascinating because Level-5 and Capcom are great companies and, likewise, Prof. Layton and Ace Attorney are great franchises. I wonder how this will all work out... it could be amazing! yikes

Amazingu Oct 19, 2010

Haven't played any of the Phoenix Wright games yet, but this is all shades of awesome!

The 3DS isn't even out yet, and it's already got a better line-up than the PSP.

Sure didn't see that coming, since game companies generally don't play well with one another (preferring to stay Rivals instead), so the mixing of franchises doesn't happen very much at all.

I don't think that's true at all.

For one thing. Capcom has been crossing over with anyone even showing a remote interest: SNK, Marvel (okay, not a game company, but still), Namco, etc.

Smash Bros had cameos by Sonic and Solid Snake, and Nintendo generally gets along with most major companies (apart from that brief fall-out with Square which has already been fixed).

I think you'll find that the major companies in Japan are quite friendly towards one another.

This is the weirdest and the most intriguing thing I've ever heard of.  8)
Especially considering how PL storylines always end up. ^_^;

But this just confirms that Shu Takumi would rather make "this".... than continue on with an Apollo Justice sequel, doesn't it?  tongue

A ghost trick sequel would be cool too.
or would have been

Ghost trick was great, but if they make a sequel, they'd better not bring any of the old cast back.
I don't want them to do anything to retroactively ruin the story.

Which is a damned shame if you ask me, because I would preorder that in an instant. This...thing is like putting a delicious burger in a stale, borderline-moldy roll. For the life of me I don't understand what people see in Layton.

Amazingu, only a few FIGHTING games get crossovers, how about any crossover titles with any type of adventure/storyline in them, as this one seems to be?

Well, Namco × Capcom isn't a fighting game per se.

Yeah, but when looking at that title, I can't help but think it was influenced/came about because of the other crossovers.

I would say that's simply more a matter of practicality (it's simpler to cross over properties in a fighting or sports game, where you don't have to worry so much about aligning the finer story details) than of "game companies not playing well with one another".

They're competitors so of course you aren't going to see these types of crossovers in multitude.  Same for most industries.  You don't see movie studios sharing their properties very much, do you?  (Aside from the limited exception of horror movies.)

I hope this plays more like Ace Attorney and less like Professor Layton.  No math homework, please.

I think this game will be awesome!

The style of the characters are very different but this doesn't mean that the game will not be good.

A perfect example that this kind of mixture work is Kingdon Hearts.
When I found this game I never in my life I imagine Square Enix and Disney characters together. But the game is so great that now Kingdom Hearts is my favorite game of all.

They will make a Kingdon Hearts fo 3DS too, and this is another motive that will make me buy a 3DS for me. smile

I've played already all ace attorney games and I'm waiting Miles Edgeworth 2 now.
I'm finishing Ghost Trick and I'm also playing the games of Professor Layton.

So, for me, Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright will be a very nice game.
