I seem to recall that when Falcom re-released Xanadu for the PC, they said that the original was the #1 selling computer game of all time in Japan, and it sold well under a million copies (my memory's a little hazy; I think it was either 480,000 or 800,000 copies).  I guess that a game has to be insanely popular to sell a million copies in Japan.

It sold about 400,000 copies.  The Japanese PC market is a lot smaller than the console market; Ys VI sold about 120,000 copies and that was considered quite good for a PC game.  Million sellers are pretty rare for console games today (except Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest).  There are quite a few million sellers for the DS though.

Interesting... I'd be interested if anyone has statistics on how many games the Japanese purchase, as compared to Americans and/or the rest of the world. My impression was that the Japanese purchase much more (per capita) than any other country. However, since they have such a large selection of video games, they may not have that many million sellers. Is that correct?

As mentioned previously, 350,000 is nothing to sneeze at, especially for a console which is only a month and a half old with a 1.2 million userbase.  Remember that when ZELDA came out for N64 and GC, the userbase for both consoles was much, much larger at the time, and so it was guaranteed that it would be a hit at the starting gates.  Wii, on the other hand, has just gotten started.

That's just it exactly.  If the Wii was available to buy, I'd buy T.P. immediately.  My friend is one of the unusual cases, he bought the game immediately even though the console wasn't available to buy.

Yeah eventually, back when you did the soundtracks for re Zero and rebirth, things were looking unlikely for a Suleputer release.
I guess I should never count the chickens until they hatch. I still love the dialogue interludes you did that weren't in the official release.

Wow, you put that whole tracklist in order.  Your patience is admirable.  I would've had a hard time doing that.

Wanderer Jan 23, 2007

If I remember correctly, "Twilight Battle" is simply a slightly elaborated version of "Barnes Frightens the Kids."

Great list! How did you remember all of that? yikes

Hyrule Field (Morning) is the one I REALLY want to hear.

SquareTex Jan 23, 2007

...wow. yikes

Nice work there, Jon...REALLY nice! big_smile

I was thinking about/dreading doing something like that, but you've got it nailed there. Thanks! smile

I appreciate the compliments, although I do admit that there may be some I have missed, notabely the ditty that plays when Link catches a fish.

And Wanderer, to answer your question:  to sort the tracks in the correct order I did three things:  1) search my player's guide to identify which scenes happened at which time, 2) watched some of the cut scene videos on the net to identify which songs were used, 3) logical guessing big_smile.

-Jon T.

EDIT:  I've gone back and added that fish catch ditty to the list.

Is there a sound test in the Wii version of TP?

Where did you get all those names?
Who came up with them?

One of my favorite tracks from the game is "Midna's Desperate Hour"
Everybody seems to use this name everywhere.
It's the piano track that occurs when a dying Midna and Wolf Link are racing back to Zelda after the Lakebed Temple.
Someone on Youtube did this. The notes aren't that hard to figure out but still I'm amazed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkNudeNYnCM

Gori FAter, on Youtube, did a piano rendition of the Twilight Princess trailer that impressed me.

Kenology Jan 25, 2007 (edited Jan 25, 2007)

^ Yeah, that's a very nice song.  I spent a few extra moments on the field before entering the bar so I could hear it loop a few more times.  Very nice piano arrangement too (I miss the strings though!).

EDIT:  The trailer arrangement is amazing...

Wanderer Jan 25, 2007

While everyone seems to be gasping and raving over "Midna's Desperate Hour", I never cared for it, in the game or out of it. It's basically just a rendition of the main theme (more of a motif, really) for solo piano and the arrangement isn't anything special.

Kenology Feb 6, 2007

Could this mean an official OST is on the way?

Crystal Feb 6, 2007

Kenny, I saw that too.
They're gonna be Gashapon figures in May, looks like..

This company is also making Bigger Zelda and Metroid Figures.
http://www.first4figures.com/
While their OOT Link looks odd, their Skull Kid and Fierce Deity look nice.

To each his own, I suppose.
I know it was just altered Midna's theme, but I really liked it for its simplicity with the solo piano.
And it makes a great, almost cinematic impact; it's the first time we see a debilitated, non-cocky Midna that really needed Link at that time.
I think it works.

This is the most appropriate thread to ask this question...

Can someone tell me what the Japanese name for OoT's "Last Battle" is?

It says, "Ganon, something-something-something".

Would some be so kind as to translate that kanji for me...  Thanks.

A quick peek at Amazon.co.jp and WWWJDIC provides these results:

ガノン最終戦

Ganon Saishuu Ikusa. Something like Ganon Final Battle.

Why would that not read "Ganon Saishuu Sen?"  Regardless, the meaning would be the same.

That song is awesome.  Check the archive in post #26.

Let'sGoMountaineers Feb 25, 2007

Thanks for the help! big_smile

I clicked the link for the archive, but it said the file wasn't found. That's ok, I guess. I couldn't DL that 300+ MB file on my current connection. lol

It is an awesome track. I have a thing for music with a western flavor.

I found this site in n.Revolution this month:

Very cool for people who have beaten the game and want to see where they stand as far as %-completion goes. I made it to 96% on the dot!

Fairly irrelevant, but neat.

Anyway, it seems as though the game continues to do decent business on all sides of the globe (according to this week's sales chart, it sold 95% of its shipment in Japan), and we're still waiting for an official soundtrack album release.

In the meantime, I am putting the finishing touches on my own.  It'll probably be uploaded to something like sendspace or MegaUpload, but keep your eyes open for it.

Carl Mar 24, 2007

Everyone who bought the game must reach 100% completion before Nintendo will ever consider a soundtrack.  Only then.  hehehe

Jon Turner Mar 24, 2007 (edited Mar 24, 2007)

While we wait until the OST is released, here's my personal attempt to create one, using a mixture of both the pre-existing MP3s and recording new pieces independently.  All the tracks --save the two orchestral ones-- have received reverberation treatment to give the feeling that these pieces were performed in a concert hall, so as to make them not sound so flat.  I've done the best I could to capture more tunes than most other attempts have done, but sadly there were some tracks that were impossible to record (the Boss Appears music pieces).  Still, this is about as nearly complete and fulfilling as possible for the time being.

Part 1 -- Tracks 1-70
http://www.sendspace.com/file/w56bs4

Part 2 -- Tracks 71-132
http://www.sendspace.com/file/9hex9p

Part 3 -- Tracks 133-182
http://www.sendspace.com/file/m2w08w

Enjoy!

The reverb-add is an excellent idea, you should do this for the OoT and Wind Waker osts next.

I remember Pioneer putting in some nice touches to Majora's Mask but maybe just a smidge of reverb for that one too, god knows that Ocarina needs it much worse though.

I really like this compilation... but I don't like the reverb, it's way too much. Is there any chance you could release it without the added reverb?
