I at least think this is good news.  He mentioned that the sequel will fix the mistakes of the first, whatever that means.  Neil Gaiman's name was mentioned by the director, Christophe Gans, but Gaiman has said this is news to him.  The writer of the first is returning after he finishes his adaptation of Driver (I'm guessing another video game to movie adaptation, joining Hitman, Alice, and Postal also in the works by others).  Gans said he might not be directing because he's currently working on Onimusha (yet another video game to movie adaptation), but that if he cannot direct then he wants someone who will continue his style.  He also said he wanted to do a collector's edition DVD of the first Silent Hill, but that's not until after he's done with Onimusha (2-3 years from now).

Heh, not a fan of the first movie?

Actually I loved the visuals. I couldn't have hoped for a better movie translation of the feel of Silent Hill. What's more, I think Silent Hill is the first movie I have ever seen CG that was blatently obvious and yet still scary.

But the dialog and acting were very poor in my opinion. It was like watching kids put on a school play. But the bits in between, with just the atmosphere and the visuals totally nailed it for me. I think I would have loved the film more had there been no script - just a visual journey following Rose through Silent Hill.

Wow. That would have been intense... or maybe just very scant dialogue here and there, like in the games. That would be a great movie. It would be a hell of a lot scarier that way, too.

I'd have to agree that it'd be a little hard to pull off a movie these days with no dialog.  I haven't played any of the SH games, but the movie was hella creepy.  I wouldn't mind another one.  That reminds me:  The 3rd Resident Evil isn't due out for most of a year, which is far too long of a wait.

Why? Maria was very obviously modelled after Cameron Diaz, so what's wrong with getting her to play the part?

That would make sense, but I SO hope they just ditch the first story and go for SH2's original one.
