I'm not sure how many people here have gotten into the Square Enix reprints after Digicube went kaput, but I've picked up a couple of the SQEX reprints of SSCX albums a little hesitantly. I was worried about the quality and that SE would try to cut some corners here and there, but so far everything has been very impressive.

Within the past year or so I've grabbed FFVII Piano Collections and SaGa Frontier II OST, and both have been of very high quality. The CDs are identical in sound production, so no worries there, but the packaging has been awesome. FFVII PC came with the same high-quality slipcover that the first print SSCX version did, and the SaGa Frontier II packaging is printed on the same artsy rice paper-ish stuff that the original SSCX version was.

I guess I'm just saying that so far I've been very pleased with the SQEX reprints... well, all of them except for Vagrant Story OST, but we all know that's the only one where the sound was tweaked. Other than that, the reprints get my vote.

The only one I picked up was Vagrant Story, so you know how that went.  I ended up getting five bucks for it on Ebay.

I don't think I'd be opposed to picking up other SQEX print soundtracks.  Just that I have the Square game Digicube soundtracks I wanted already, except for Vagrant Story.  It's good to know that the others are true to the original prints though.

Maybe I'm out of the loop here, but exactly what when wrong with the remastering of the Vagrant Story OST?

The Vagrant Story OST was "remastered"... at first I thought it was better because things sounded brighter and louder, but after a few listens I did not like it at all and prefered the original version.

Here's an older thread about it (kinda long):

I must have missed about half of that thread.  I remember the parts where people were happy that it was getting remastered, but I don't think I ever saw all the bashing that came later.  Thanks for the link.
