Soundtrack Central The best classic game music and more

Responding to Goldfish's comment in a non-argumentative way:  I like several shows out now, mainly sci-fi stuff (Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, Supernatural, Smallville), as well as the fake news hour on Comedy Central and the MacFarlane cartoon hour on Sundays.

Speaking of Family Guy, I'm shocked that they actually got Rush Limbaugh for the Star Wars season premiere.

Ugh... no comment. Have the first two boxes and I'm done although I do want to see the Star Wars special for some reason.

XLord007 Oct 9, 2007

Well, I guess I'm pretty fortunate in that every single TV show I wanted on DVD has been released except Andy Richter Controls the Universe.  At this point, I don't particularly care if it ever makes it out, but if it does, I'll certainly pick it up.

Since the subject is box sets in general, I'd also love to see a box set of the animated Batman movies (Mask of the Phantasm, Sub-Zero, and Return of the Joker; I could take or leave Batwoman). Mask of the Phantasm is in desperate need of a special edition.

Err...

I didn't say there wasn't good stuff on TV, but...Let me just say there's very little I'll be buying the boxset for in a few years. And I just think modern cartoons (Cartoon Network stuff) have gone to total crap, period. Would it really hurt to get some goddamn Looney Tunes out there?

Speaking of "modern" TV: Rock of Love with Bret Michaels. Yeah, I consider reality TV the work of the devil, but I'm a hopeless Poison fanboy and I enjoyed the episodes (and some of the girls) of this show and found it really well-done and funny overall (Bret: "I leave the girls alone with my bandmates for 15 minutes and I come back and they're all smashed!"). Yeah, I'd probably get this. Would also like to see one for the Supergroup show, which I've heard about recently, but haven't had a chance to watch...I imagine Scott Ian and Sebastian Bach working together in a reality TV setting being very interesting.

James O Oct 9, 2007

I heard it was just announced for Europe and NA is following after, but I can't wait to get some english sub/french dub Les Mysterieuses Cites D'or.  I loved that show.

shdwrlm3 Oct 9, 2007

I should've said that I wanted a "Special Edition" Batman box set. As far as I know, the existing releases have very few, if any, special features. I also hear the Phantasm disc is a flipper, which, no.

Wow, I hadn't thought about that show in a while, and yet I never forgot it.  That's the one with the little orange guy and the claymation portions.  I still remember the theme song a little bit.

Idolores Oct 9, 2007

Did anyone say Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs yet? Or Samurai Pizza Cats? Because I want those two badly enough to strangle a dog.

"Up all Day"  continues to crack me up, and I'll second the comment about Rugrats.  It lost its charm about 3 or 4 years in.

Goosebumps - It's already on DVD, but at $10 a piece for 2 episodes, hell no (I think I could only stomach re-watching them once a decade anyway).  It's one of those shows I only enjoy watching to make fun of everything about it (acting, production value, story, etc.) and because I used to love the books as a lil Nemo.  Again, gotta love nostlagia.

Aren't they airing that on cartoon network now? You could see them again that way.

Yeah, that's what reintroduced me to the show.

I can't remember the names of the episodes but I love the one where Dagget and Norb's night is disrupted by a noisy and "humongerious" cricket and the other where Norbert "bops" Dagget into next week, month, etc for bugging him.

Jodo Kast Oct 11, 2007

With respect to TV shows, everything but one show I'm interested in has made it to DVD. I stopped watching TV sometime in the 90s, so I'm very unfamiliar with anything past the year 2000. The only one I want is Otherworld. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0088587/

As for movies, I can't think of much. I would really like to have the first two films by Kim Ki Duk, which are Alligator and Wild Animals. Every American movie that interests me is already on DVD.

That one's good too.  "Up all Day" is a continuation from "Up all Night" where they stayed awake as long as they could "just 'cause" and they end up about 1000 years in the future.  "Up all Day" takes them back and follows them as they try to fall asleep, but can't because they're too tired.  Hilarity ensures!

Jay Oct 11, 2007

Actually, while we're on cartoons, I'd really love to see 2 Stupid Dogs make it to DVD.

SquareTex Oct 11, 2007

Gotta concur with 2 Stupid Dogs and Duckman. smile

And whose idea was it to release Courage the Cowardly Dog on DVD in Australia, and not follow it up with a stateside release?!? <:(

Upright Citizens Brigade Season 2 & 3
Comedy Central released the first season and I immediately snatched it up but the release of the other seasons was based on the sale of the first season which probably didn't do so hot. The concept is hit and miss depending on who is watching but the sketch comedy of the Upright Citizen Brigade in their mission to undermind the status quo through the proliferation of chaos was bizarre enough to me to stand out.

I was at the local mall the yesterday day and to my surprise they recently released the second season of this. Most of the episodes I remember are from season three so I haven't seen most of these ones. Only problem: I for got how much Comedy Central whores their wares on anything they sell - does anyone remember when buying a DVD meant you didn't have to what previews and promos? I miss those days...

Wondering, have any of you ever tried TV Addicts.tv?

http://www.tvaddicts.tv/

It's a site that specializes in providing TV shows on DVD.  Their prices are quite high for what's essentially DVD-R copies (and the shipping cost is crazy too, even U.S. domestic), and I have no idea of the quality of the recordings, but they have my Ned And Stacey Season 2, so I'm giving it a shot.  I noticed they have a number of shows that you guys mentioned, such as TV Funhouse, The Tick, Reboot, Gargoyles, X-Men, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Ghostbusters, and Duckman.

Ramza Dec 22, 2007

I want the rest of Saint Seiya in the US.

Amazingu Dec 23, 2007

Holy Crap, Angela, that friggin' RULES!
Please do give us your impressions if you're giving this a shot, cos I'm definitely getting Parker Lewis if the quality is good enough, and I'll gladly put down 60 bucks for it!

Ryu Dec 23, 2007

Ah, boo, no complete Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?  = (

Will do.  I've already put in the order; they claim two to four weeks for shipping, but the moment I get it and give it a watch, I'll let you know.

If it's turns out satisfactory, I just might go for that X-Men set myself. :)

Angela Dec 24, 2007 (edited Dec 24, 2007)

Well, that ain't too promising.  Now I'm not sure if I should cancel the order, or let it play....

Guess I should've done a bit more research before hitting up that order.

EDIT: Decided to cancel the order, once my credit card company told me that they're attempting to charge me fifteen dollars more than what was initially agreed upon.  No f---ing way.

Sorry, guys.  Thought this would be a viable solution to our DVD prayers.

Red HamsterX Dec 24, 2007 (edited Dec 24, 2007)

Actually, The Tick vs. Season 2 was out when I made my post.

It just, somehow, managed to slip through all of my RSS feeds without me noticing, and I glance at those things almost as often as I check my e-mail. (Which is to say that there's no reason why I shouldn't have seen its solicitation)

-Edit-
What would the copyright implications of a service like this be?

They mention that their discs are region-free, and they make absolutely no reference to rights, licenses, or ownership whatsoever. It seems very bootleggy.

Ashley Winchester Dec 24, 2007

Actually, I was at Wal Mart the other day and after looking at DVD recorders for the hell of it and I was thinking how plausable it would be to do something like this yourself given the price of the one I was looking at - $80-90. This way you would know the quality was good since you'd have complete control over the editing and encoding process. From the prices I was reading people where paying for botched seasons/complete series this would be the way to go.

Angela Dec 24, 2007

The DYI method of recording was something I had considered at one time, but sort of phased out when considering the time and commitment one would need to invest in doing something like that.  Plus, you're at the mercy of TV's syndication, so it could be a good while before getting every episode of your desired show.

Still, it's an idea that's sounding better and better now.  And it wouldn't be so bad for me and Ned & Stacey, seeing as how there were only two seasons.

Oh, it's completely illegal, and everything is a bootleg.  No question about that.

There's also the unofficial/custom set route.

They're apparently affiliated with TV Addicts.tv; they've even got the same online structure and format.   Still, I'd be curious to hear of your experience with them.

You know, honestly, reading that just perked me up.  "DIY"!  See?  I'm right on track again. ;)

Nevertheless, I still had to cancel my credit card.  Definitely not taking any more chances with these guys.

Ryu Dec 24, 2007

Can't you report them for fraud or something regarding the overcharging?  I'm surprised the MPAA hadn't shut down their operation anyway.

I didn't get the set even though my mom did order it. It's either late or a rip-off. Time to raise some hell.
