Since Angela didn't jump on it (she's probably something called "busy" unlike myself at the moment so here goes), what are you planning to purchase this month? I myself cannot believe it's almost November already. Black Friday comes in just a bunch of weeks.

Ashley Winchester Oct 24, 2007

I'll probably pick up the Rockman 7 and 8 discs - that was November right?; I'm currently waiting for VGM world to restock the Rockman 1-6 Box though. Other than that I can't really think of much else.

Shoebonics Oct 24, 2007

Yeah, I liked Rival Schools a lot. "On the Rooftop of Sunshine HS" and "In a Classroom of Sunshine HS" were as great as I remembered, full of energy. The seedy, low-brow sound of the off-beat "In Front of Pacific HS Back Gate" and "Construction Site at the Back of Evil HS" is great as well. If I find a copy at somepoint I'll nab it up since I don't have any "fighter" soundtracks at all.

I was initally glad you sent RE4 since I'd been meaning to look into it but the fact the soundtrack was seperated into types per disc (dark/agressive) really ruined it for me... I kept on listening to the agressive side. I really wish they were mixed together and I wouldn't be so tempted to do that.

Not to knock the topic off track (too late) you like any of the WA1 music?

Jay Oct 24, 2007

Sesame Street Old School Vol 2 dvd. And isn't Mario Galaxy out in November?

Not busy enough to write up the following. :)  Though I'm surprised we've got the "release purchases" thread up this early toward the end of the month.  It's DOOMSDAY MONTH, though, so maybe we need the early start.  To be honest, this year's November has such a monstrously absurd amount of stuff, that I just don't think I'll be picking them all up at once this time.  Like last year, I think I need to work up a two-tier system to break everything down.

Tier One includes the absolute must haves, which, first and foremost, is the 40GB Playstation 3.  True, MGS4 is still at least four months away, but by then, I should have the system broken in all nice and good for its imminent arrival.  Gamewise, the PS3 has added a slew of new stuff I want to get, including Assassin's Creed, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Time Crisis 4.  For the DS, there's Contra 4 and Ontamarama, and the Wii boasts Super Mario Galaxy and Trauma Center: New Blood.  On the soundtrack front, it's LOTR: The Return of The King Complete Recordings, Ace Combat 6 Original Soundtrack, and Akumajo Dracula X Chronicles Original Soundtrack.  There is now the conundrum of deciding between the latest movie releases; do I go Blu-ray or DVD?  Blu-ray has the superior quality, of course, but DVDs are much more user-friendly for when I start tagging around friends and family this holiday for visits.  (And no, I ain't dragging my PS3 around all over the place.)  In any case, the only truly must-have movie this month is Ratatouille.  I just may have to pick up that Pixar Short Films Collection - Volume 1 too, because I've heard conflicting rumors that "Lifted" isn't going to be included with Ratatouille -- curses to the lot of ye, Disney!!  And yes, at last we're getting Seinfeld: The Complete Ninth Season.

Tier Two consists of stuff that I could probably wait out on, but will almost definitely pick up down the line.  This includes the PS3 version of Rock Band, which might make little sense for me to invest in, since I have very few gamer friends (and even fewer rhythm-oriented ones).  Wii-wise, I've yet to finish Tomb Raider: Anniversary on the PS2, and I am curious to see if there's anything new with this new version. I wanna hear the final verdict on Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Link's Crossbow Training, and Soul Calibur Legends before deciding to give them a go, and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is a strong maybe, once I'm finished with Front Mission DS.  Onto the DS, I'll likely pick up Cooking Mama 2: Dinner With Friends and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker for my cousins, so I can get a gander at those, along with Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.  I'm doing a verdict-wait on PSP's Silent Hill Origins and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus.  Finally, movies include the competent Live Free or Die Hard: Unrated Edition and the less-than-competent Shrek The Third.  I'll pick these up just to polish off my collections of the respective series.

.... Damn.  Black Friday is pretty much out for me now.  And I think I might need to put in some massive overtime soon; either that, or forego holiday shopping altogether this year.  o_O

Ryu Oct 24, 2007 (edited Oct 31, 2007)

Angela, embrace the HD movie experience!

I'll be getting Seinfeld: Season 9 (dvd) and, sorta sad no one else cares about Futurama's return with Futurama: Bender's Big Score! (dvd).

I'll be snatching up Super Mario Galaxy (Wii), Rock Band (360), Wii Zapper with Link's Crossbow Training (Wii) and Lego Star Wars Complete Saga (360).

I'll need to play Kane & Lynch Dead Men (360), Call of Duty 4 Modern Warefare (360) and Assassin's Creed (360) first, before plopping down any money on them.

I changed my mind on this stuff, which I'll leave on the table as Christmas options or pick up whenever I have more free time:  Cars (blu-ray), Ratatouille (blu-ray), Die Hard Collection (blu-ray), Monty Python's Life of Brian - The Immaculate Edition (blu-ray - which got delayed anyway, allegedly), Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness (PSP), Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn (Wii), Soul Calibur Legends (Wii), Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles (Wii), Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, and Ghost Squad (Wii).

Same here, sadly. As much as I *love* Futurama, movie adaptations of things often fail, and I'd hate to have a failure tarnish my love of the series.

As for purchases, uh... Actually, this seems like a pretty light month for me.

I may be forgetting something, but it's looking like Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii) and Trauma Center: New Blood (Wii) will be it.

This is good, since I've had, like, all of three hours to play games in the last three weeks, so at least I won't be missing anything.

Ryu Oct 24, 2007

Regarding Futurama, I am unsure if they (supposedly all the original crew is coming back for these four releases) can handle an entire move timeframe, but The Simpsons Movie was really good, IMO.  I guess we'll see in little over a month from now how well they did.

RinoaDestiny Oct 24, 2007

Ace Combat 6 OST. I'm banking it all on Keiki Kobayashi delivering yet another rousing score.

GoldfishX Oct 24, 2007

Should be interesting: Contra IV is a must-have. There's the long-awaited Megaman 7 soundtrack coming and I'll hear some of Dracula X remake before committing to a purchase (I own the original, so they'd have to do something reasonably amazing to make it worth buying a second time). Fire Emblem is a strong plus for the Wii and Galaxy will be a rental when it happens, but I'll stick to my "when they bring out Smash Brothers" plan. Skid Row's first two albums were successful recently in securing shelf space, so Sebastian Bach's "Angel Down" is a must.

Angela wrote:

I hear you and feel the pain...Even more than GH, Rock Band just screams "party game" (and I mean in "face to face", not online, although that will be great too) or at least "stick me in an arcade". I'm not buying it for myself until later on, but I'm definitely going to try to find people who take the early plunge. At least it will spawn some great Youtube stuff. I wonder how Otakon will handle it this year...They had their hands full with just GHII last time.

Judging by the trailer, there's absolutely no reason to be wary. There are some slight spoilers, but it's been so long since the last new episode that every Futurama fan owes it to himself to watch:
http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1779109/

On a related note, I'm totally picking up every version of The Simpsons Game that I own a system for (i.e., PS2 and DS).

Not being a dick, but is there system-specific reason why?  I played the demo for it (on 360, since the PS3 one had no sound inexplicably enough) and noticed it has a great presentation, but wasn't overly wowed by the gameplay, so I was going to pass it over completely.  However, if you know something about it I don't (which is very possible), let me know.

As for the trailer... I think I'll stay away from spoilers as much as I can and just hope to be pleasantly entertained.

Yes, I don't own a 360 or PS3, but I do own a PS2 and DS ^_^  The DS version is a no-brainer since, as a side-scroller, it'll be fundamentally different from the other versions. Plus, it has "Pet Homer" as an exclusive. As for the PS2 version, apparently it's pretty close to the next-gen versions in terms of gameplay, plus it's 20 bucks cheaper. Even if I did have a next-gen system, I think the price difference would've led me to get the PS2 version anyway.

To be honest, I'm not getting them for the gameplay at all. As a longtime Simpsons fan as well as video game addict, I'm just excited by the video game parodies. The 360 demo looked absolutely hilarious (from the very first achievement to the various video game cliches), so as long as I get a few laughs I don't care how it plays (okay, it has to at least play better than Simpsons Wrestling).

XISMZERO Oct 25, 2007

I'm going to take a dive for Super Mario Galaxy as the second game for my Wii (excluding Virtual Console games). Target is offering some old-fashioned preorder gimmicks (they don't do preorder promos that much anymore do they?) having something to do with some coin and a preorder "card." Yeah I know, silly, but it's an incentive (pardon the pun)  to buy it there and a great reason *not* to buy from EBGameStop or Best Buy.

/clutches onto Super Mario Sunshine towel from Toys R Us...

Oh yeah, and I'm plopping down $225 for a professional BUNN VP17-1 coffee brewer. The time has come.

Idolores Oct 25, 2007

Nothing in games, music, anime, movies or anything for me this month. It's going to be a dead month as I get my damn finances back in check. Final month for laptop payments, at the very least, then I'm done with that. That'll free up a good chunka change.

Oh, there IS this li'l guy here I wanna pick up, but . . . Nov. is the Japanese release date. It'll be at least a month before any shipments arrive in Canada.

Oh, I thought you meant that you'd get it on EVERY system you own, and then assumed you had more besides those examples.  Sorry for misunderstanding you.  Honestly, I am more excited about the possibility of The Simpsons: Arcade Game coming out on XBLA/PSN like the Turtles arcade game did when the dreadful TMNT game was released.  If the DS version plays like that (which I doubt because they don't (ie Konami) make games like that anymore.... *sigh*

Dracula X Chronicles OST

DVD:

My hope is that 'Breath' comes out. Even better, I hope an early Kim Ki Duk collection comes out, with his first two movies. His movies are not well received in Korea, but Europeans and Americans tend to love them.

December has what I really want - Blade Runner. I'll be getting the 4 disc edition, as I feel it's the best bargain. In fact, I already pre-ordered 2 of them.

i think something was Lost In Translation with the whole 'disc 1 = Yin Side, disc 2 = Yang Side', the songs are simply in the order they appear in the game so i'm still pretty puzzled by why they did that.

i've been pretty busy with schoolwerk lately and haven't uploaded the Wild Arms to mah 'pod just yet, I promise i will give it a listen-to by the end of the month.

Same here. If as good as 5, I'll buy Xbox360 and the game with the risk of getting RRoD (even then it's a wiser decision now that PS3 clearly bombs).

Sadly, initial reactions say both game and music are disappoiting... I'd watch some gameplays via Peercast.

Well, it looks like I'm gonna have to add the Ar_tonelico II Hymmnos discs.

Definitely excited about Ar-Tonelico 2, and it's respective Hymnos, but I ought to finish up all the soundtracks I still have left on my plate BEFORE I shell out for these, and add to my already mountainous "process" pile.

Besides, Gust's otherwise sunny, upbeat musics are very evocative of Summer-time for me; I'll probably wait until then to get them.

Of course, I could always forget "the mountain" and just go straight for those instead, but I, personally, find it pointless to have the soundtrack for a game I haven't played yet, yet will still have the chance to play at a later date. You see, I like to root through the soundtrack as I play the game.

But I'm definitely going for Ar-Tonelico and Hymnos 2 at some point or other, and I'm going to get the Crisis Core and actually buy the It's a Wonderful World score, too.

I might eventually shell out for some Gran Turismo, Phantasy Star, and Ys albums, but I'm going to focus on more recent stuff for right now, and work my way back.

Ultimately though, I've become more squeamish about shelling out for stuff lately; I'm trying to sell off all of the stuff I have already as it is.

Actually, you're re-cursed for your blatant lack of extras otherwise.  Man.... Pixar's home releases used to be jam-packed with bonus features and documentaries before CARS.  And CARS and Ratatouille were films in particular I would've loved an abundance of extras for.

What's there is nice, though.  The "Your Friend The Rat" short, which is actually quite lengthy at eleven minutes, is an enjoyable watch; really fun and diverse use of 2D/3D art techniques.  And that "YES!" clip is so silly and dumb, it's awesome.  ^_^

Disney has been deliberately withholding extras on DVDs, hoping instead to release 2-disc sets years later at inflated prices. On one hand, I had no use for the full-frame versions that they were stuffing onto the second discs (not to mention the "games"), but on the other, it sucks that we'll have wait longer and pay more for extras that should've been standard in the first place.
