The FFIV remake is upon us, and as with FFIII, there is sure to be a re-done/re-arranged score of one of Uematsu's best. Is there any word on a soundtrack yet?

End of January, see the other thread about it.
Sorry, I didn't know there was another thread. I did a search but couldn't find any references to this.
Pretty sure there was one somewhere, I looked but couldn't find it either. I only ever visit the new posts link anyway so not even sure where it is.
This thread perhaps
FFIV DS Samples; Very Celtic Moon Inspired
That would probably be it.
Just got killed by the new Theme of Love version yesterday.
Definitely a must-buy OST,and a must-buy game,too...
Too bad the characters still are in SD,cause in the cinematics/CGs/movies,they just rock. The last trailer showing Golbez and his...team...are just awesome.Anyone was impressed by it too?Isn't Kain just wonderfully redesigned in CGs?
2 questions,now:
1)Why do you think Amano changed the game "symbol" (sorry, can't find the right English word),from the Kain picture standing,to a Golbez one (even if both characters are very dear to me)?I loved the Kain image,so why the hell did it have to be changed?Ok,both are complex characters,but...*sigh*
2)Does anyone know if the game is going to be dubbed in English,or if we will have Japanese voices,or any choice between them?(I heard there will even be a complete French translation for France, where I come from, which is terrible/horrible/awful,as it did with Kingdom Hearts).Personally, after hearing the original voices,I just can't stand listening to some English dubbers that will most likely act worse.Sorry if this is rude to some ears, but concerning dubbing of animes and games,Japanese are the best(I think many people here will agree on that point, though).
Sorry for this. Well, recently, Square Enix games had excellent English voice actings. Dragon Quest VIII and FFXII, especially, which used many varieties of the language to create a more coherent background. So if FFIV is released outside Japan, I am pretty confident as far as voice acting is concerned.

Eh~, as much as I like him, I think Kain was as inappropriate a title design as Syldra (FFV) or Gabranth (FFXII). I know many agree with you, though. Regarding your point, a developer mentions it in this interview.
Rough translation: By the way, this time we altered the title design's character from Kain to Golbez. While some people said it shouldn't be changed, we thought it should, given it was a remake, not a port. You'll grasp why it’s Golbez if you play the game.
FFIV is probably my first FF experience (or II), and where I started to realize VGM was so good. Maybe it didn't stand the test of time for me, nor will I ever play this remake, but I still respect what Uematsu did at that time.

Same here. Granted, one of my first CD's ever given to me/purchased (and I mean the very first) was Kefka's Domain, the US release of the soundtrack to FFIII (VI). I had started to hear the good stuff in IV, and by the time Chrono Trigger and FFIII came around, I was hooked.
I'm planning on checking out this OST. "Theme of Love" sounds great, so I can just imagine what the other stuff sounds like...
For KujaFFman, don't you think that KH was not treating characters as they should have been?I'm not really familiar with dubbers names, but I thought while playing it that voices were just those of usual teenagers dubbers, and that it was kinda breaking the eerie atmosphere.I prefer English or Japanese voices as they allow me to "evade" more easily, especially Japanese ones.About English dubbing in general,I really liked the ones in FF X and XII,but I can also understand why some people may not like them,as I've heard that many people were disappointed by FF XII voice acting, especially Fran's voice (I liked it,personally).
Indeed,as you underline it,Cedille, title designs of FF V or XII were not really appropriate too,I had never noticed. For FF IV,it should have been the moon, cause this may be the title's biggest specificity, but as a meteor has been used for FF VII...
To come back to FF IV,I really hope characters' stories will be emphasized,as some of them were sounding more than interesting to me,but were not "deep" enough (for me) in the first version.

Via "methods", it's been revealed that there's....no new music! None at all!
Geez. What a missed opportunity.

Please elaborate.
Oh, alright. I thought that meant there was no new arrangements.
Some samples are up on the soundtrack website.
Checking it out now... Theme of Love is a little different, but yeah, it's the music we know and love, with different instruments for the most part.
I'll edit this if I find anything earthshattering.
Edit:
"Long Way To Go" has drums now... and I like the new one better... sounds much more militaristic, or something.
Rydia's Theme is a bit different as well.
I'll probably buy this OST just for fun.
Edit2: I like the trumpet sample that's used on songs like "Within the Giant"
This is out know isn't it? Can anyone give us their thoughts on it?
For the most part I'm very satisfied. Some of the synth doesn't work so well IMO (Zeromus final battle, Samba de Chocobo) but it is the DS after all. I definitely do like that the tracks are looped twice.

Ditto that sentiment. I can say I am disappointed in the arrangement of Mt. Ordeals - just sounds too synthy for its own good. The original definitely has a better sound to it.
But when this OST is good, it's good; the arrangement of Long Way to Go is amazing and I'm very happy with Within the Giant, my favorite final dungeon theme ever. And oh man, Land of Dwarves, the underground overworld theme sounds so badass due to this Genesis-sounding synth in the background. It's also made me appreciate tracks I never would listen to before, like Another Moon.
But why couldn't they put the intro to Cry in Sorrow, you know, at the intro to Cry in Sorrow??! At least it's in there...
I was greatly looking forward to this album but found myself a little disappointed initially; from hearing "Theme of Love" included on the Tsuki no Akari single, I thought the entire soundtrack was going to be as carefully and thoughtfully arranged, but in most cases it was just a note-for-note synth upgrade.
Once I ratcheted my expectations downward a little bit, though, I found myself enjoying most of the album, and realizing how long it's actually been since I sat down and listened to the FF4 soundtrack straight through. A few tracks come out sounding a little weak, but "Golbeza, Clad in the Dark" has never sounded better. And I'm pretty sure if you want to drive someone insane, putting "Mysidia" on repeat along with "Critter Tripper Fritter?!" from FFV Dear Friends is the quickest way to do it.
I thought it was okay. It serves its purpose well but to me, synth is synth, no matter how upgraded it has been. Obviously, the DS doesn't leave much room for every track to be played with an orchestra (which this music deserves) but it's a shame, nonetheless.
It's actually a little troubling that some of the tracks ended up sounding *worse* than the originals, especially "The Final Battle", a synthy monstrosity.
The soundtrack is the original version whereas the DS version is heavily downgraded (in many ways worse than the SNES version). Given the production procedure, there could have been capacity for more ambitious arrangements, but most of the details would have been lost. The graphical ambitions of this remake really shafted the music. That said, I have few qualms with the release itself and didn't really expect much more following the Final Fantasy III Original Soundtrack.

I agree. I found this new version less focused and less effective than the original. A perfect example is the Red Wings opening. The trumpet samples in the new version are a bit more "realistic" (if you could call it that), but are weak and lack the punch and conviction of the original sounds. This kind of thing is all over the new arrangements.
Mt. Ordeals and Mysidia are embarrassing.
I did enjoy what they did with Somewhere in the World and Troia though.
Overall, pretty hit or miss, with more misses.
.
I'm pretty easy going. I like a lot of stuff. Especially music. Especially FFIV on the SNES. Easily in my top 10 OSTs.
But the tunes in the DS remake were so bad to my ears, I sold it within a week of buying the game.
It's a cheapy disgrace to the original soundtrack. The SNES synth was much better, IMHO. I probably owe some of that to nostalgia, but the SNES original was so much more bombastic and powerful. I miss the punchy trumpets, crisp drums, and especially those strings. It really set the standard for SNES music in my youth.
I went in to the DS version knowing that it wouldn't be able to recapture the fullness of the SNES original; as such, I wasn't all too disappointed and rather had a positive experience with the arrangements.
While playing, a few tracks made me think, "this isn't too hot, but will sound great remastered on disc" - namely stuff like the Zeromus battle. I was more or less assuming this OST release would see the same upgrade that the FFIII OST did and this is where the ball was dropped.
Mt. Ordeals? Yech. Zeromus? Ugh. On the OST, they both sound nearly identical to their game counterparts, which is a real shame. The all important battle music? Well, coming off last week's arrangement of "The Dreadful Fight" on the Chocobo Dungeon CD, anything else would pale in comparison.
So, the bottom line is that the OST release still carries some of the synthy residue apparent from the game. Works on some, ruins others. Still worth a listen, in my opinion.
.
Hmmm...I'm liking it so far. Of course, I'm only on "Baron Castle" on Disc 1 but the remixed versions don't hurt my ears. At least it's not as abysmal as the remastered Vagrant Story OST, which was a trainwreck.
Ooohh...just hit "Theme of Love" with the Celtic twist. Oh wow. *falls in love*
Now, if only that DVD was a no-region instead of Region 2. Argh.
Strangely enough, I think the music sounds better coming straight from the DS. It's downgraded, yes, but I think that actually helps the quality overall, especially compared to the SPC synth. That might sound strange, but the OST definitely sounds too clean.

You're not alone there, I was thinking the same thing.
Extremely disappointing release, this one.
