Mitsuda will be releasing a piano score for the Sailing to the World album.  The score will come with a music CD, and the tracks were arranged by Masashi Hamauzu.  The score comes out on 4/1 for 2600 Yen.  I think Cocoebiz will be selling it.

Hoo boy.

Yuvraj Mar 9, 2006

Holy mama! Hamauzu is the man when it comes to piano arranging. And there are some beatiful moments to be found on the original score. This is great news indeed.

Still wondering what ever happened to that Chrono Cross arrange album though...

I always thought that the CC "arrange" was just the SE re-release that was mistaken for something new. If I'm not mistaken, the re-release dropped within a few months of the supposed street date of the arrange album.

No, Mitsuda himself announced the Chrono Cross arrange, and it was to be published by Procyon Studios last July.  I think he mentioned on his website that it was delayed because he is too busy with other projects and didn't want to rush it out the door.

Whoa... yikes

This may very well be one interesting combo. Thankis for the heads-up! big_smile

Please,if anybody hears about the release date of the arranged Chrono Cross album, post on this forum.I've been waiting for such a thing for a long time now(even if the OST was already excellent,I can say I truly love the third cd).I'm also crying that there is about no chance that we can get another game in the Chrono series...

SEx "revived" FF7 and the Seiken Densetsu series, I wouldn't be surprised if they'll pick up the Chrono series as well sometime...

I'd be shocked if Squenix doesn't make another Chrono game.  The franchise is popular worldwide, so it seems inevitable.

Honestly,if I were you,I wouldn't hope that much.It is not yet projected by Square-Enix (they replied that to someone who had asked for it through email). They spoke of maybe re-releasing Chrono Trigger on Gameboy Advance (maybe DS?),or at least they made a questionary in which they were asking people which game they wanted to be remade(some of you may remember this poll),along with Seiken Densetsu 2.The thing is that FF VII is EXTREMELY popular worldwide and was even released in Europe, and the Seiken series is also very famous and has more epsiodes than the Chrono Series, even if only Sword of Mana was released within Europe.I know that the Chrono series has (have?) hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide, and personally it is my favourite series, but do you really want another game without Masako Kato?(he is the one that left Square-Enix,right?)Do we really need another episode?Wasn't the story complete and wonderful enough?Maybe what I would like would be a complete re-making of both C Ttrigger and C Cross with the power of next gen consoles like Playstation 3 to get better graphisms, but even I think it would be a mistake. We have to keep good memories of the past, and go towards good novelties (but honestly,I'm taking less and less pleasure in recend RPGs).I can only remember with pleasure great old-school games, and I think that one day,we'll all leave this nostalgia behind, and perhaps stop playing these games,as we have to live fully, letting joys of the past to our youth.I am presently 23 years old,and I really hope I will have stopped playing games before 5 years. We all need to grow, and life is too short to be spent too much within virtual worlds.Sorry if I got too far away from the original subject, but I just wanted to tell what was on my mind, even if it was with comments without any interest.

So anyone listen yet?  Or even play the score?:>

Wanderer Apr 21, 2006

I listened to it. I was bored to tears. It's odd because everyone else seems to like it. It just sounded like muzak to me. Nothing like either man's styles.

Or maybe I was deaf that day...

That picture was from a fan remake of the game that had to be stopped because SE's lawyers issued a cease-and-desist letter.

Just one more bad news concerning the Chrono series...

HamandSushi Apr 24, 2006 (edited Apr 24, 2006)

Well, getting back to the actual topic . . .

Finally got it.  I can see how one would be inclined to write it off as Muzak---the 2nd and 3rd pieces are rather bland.  But after than that it's golden Hamauzu again.  His characteristic piano sounds come in subtly at first, and then become more and more pronounced.  The sound quality is rather terrible (what the hell is that shaker-like echo?)---but I suppose you're supposed to PLAY the songs, not listen to them.

Oh yeah, Endo is perfect here---unlike the lifeless and clunky Saga Frontier II-Rhapsody embarrasment.

Huh?

HamandSushi Apr 25, 2006

That's right.  I went there.

SquareTex Apr 25, 2006

Well, you forgot to provide directions so the rest of us can follow you.

Care to EXPLAIN your claim?

HamandSushi Apr 25, 2006

I don't think it's terrible.  But the arrangements are shorter and mostly less complex than the originals; this would be fine if the playing brought out any subtleties--but there is little dynamic or rythmic contrast.
